Hutton just has a reputation as a bit if a journeyman whether its fair or not is another matter. Hes done well wherever hes played and is renowned for his work rate.

He's been with Villa since 2011, so hardly a journeyman.

Its all too easy to hear a name that's linked to us and instinctively react based on the little (being honest) we really now about that individual. This is a prime example of that, scratch just below the surface and you reveal some compelling stats.

I think your last point is really pertinent and again something we tend to forget and that's who has the individual been playing with.

Partnerships are important on the pitch, arguably none more so than at CB where the guy your playing next to can have almost as much influence over your game as you do, certainly they can make you look good, bad or indifferent.

For example, I'd say Lees is a player I wasn't massively excited about when we signed him but his partnership with Loovens improved him, in fact collectively, they both improve.

A slightly different example is Lee, a really good player that seems to elevate his performances as the squad improves around him, not every player can achieve that and it's why he's one of the few players we have who could step up to the Prem.

I rattled on a bit I know....

Yes, for centre backs, it's all about pairings, and rightly you point to the Lees/Loovens partnership It's probably the best pairing I've seen at Wednesday for many a year Individually, maybe not, but as a pairing, definitely. As for Flint, it's only what I've seen against us, and his TV appearances, and he hasn't impressed me His aerial mastery in opponents boxes, is strangely not replicated in his own His appearance stats suggest he's been lucky with injuries, and has shown a level of consistency As the poster points out, he has played in a poor defence He has though been a regular cog in that dodgy defence. I would be hesitant

Mulgrew is a set piece specialist a solid left sided CB and also a genuine LB. Played at a decent level all his career and still a good player

Yet some of our fans turn their noses up at a player like this?

Especially somebody who talks about the very limited Hanley like he's the new Cannavaro...

Baffling

Playing devils advocate here a little bit...the bit on the right might be why some people are wary of Mulgrew.  Stats taken from over 36 games last season.  It basically says he made one sucessful tackle over all those games.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Definitely need to work on the phrasing in that one... pretty sure he made more than one tackle last season :ghoulguy:

At no point did I say he's a journeyman. I said he has a reputation as one , people assume hes rubbish and,  been around the block. He isnt a huge name with a big reputation.

He's played the vast majority of his career for top half premier league teams barring villa over the last 2 years. He has a good pedigree and I wouldnt complain if we signed him.

Dont get me wrong, he's not an exciting signing by any stretch of the imagination but, he'd be a useful squad player.

Fulham are ready to make a move for Norwich City man Cameron Jerome.

Slavisa Jokanovic is a big fan of the 30-year-old and he was on the list of players the Fulham boss wanted to sign in order to achieve promotion with the west London outfit this season, despite him not meeting the U28 rule.

Norwich City are looking to tie up a deal to sign youngster Jake Clarke-Salter on loan from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old defender, who has made one first-team appearance for the Blues, has been with the club since the age of eight and recently signed a new four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

He spent most of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers and featured for England this summer as they won the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.

Several League clubs have expressed an interest in taking him on loan this season.

He would be a good signing for Fulham, perfect for the way they play
