Were you born 4 years ago? This is the best squad we've had in 20 years and we spent £10m on a centre forward 6 months back. Unprepared is loaning Graham Barratt on a Friday teatime, buying Francis Jeffers with one hamstring the week before the season starts and getting players to make their own sandwiches. Getting a quality centre back to replace Loovens would give confidence to the midfield to push up field a bit more (or for us to play two more attack minded midfielders) thereby creating more/better chances for the forwards. An alternative could have been, on just this occasion, to fill a void we've had for over a season, to pay the asking price and get a quality player in early. Early enough to develop an understanding with his new team mates so as to be up to speed for the opening fixture. A second could follow later, of whatever quality, a month into the season. Genuine question - did you start watching Wednesday the week after Chansiri bought the club? We may have shortcomings, and we may need a centre half, but compared to some pre seasons the last 15/20 years this squad we have at the minute is like the Hungary side of 1953.
