If it wasn't for his links to Sheffield United I think most fans would love him here.

But I cant see him coming or fans accepting him.

He doesn't feel a good 'fit' because of his past connections.

Makes me laugh this though, if Wilder was willing I'd have him here now, fans saying pig this and that are just being stupid.

It would be interesting if he was offered it to see if he would but imo  he would refuse on the grounds that the club doesn't fit his criteria not because its Wednesday.

The only problem with having an ex Sheffield United man is if things start to go wrong.

It happens with players and managers everywhere else though, and at much bigger clubs. It usually gets a few grumbles, but then largely forgotten.

Benitez- Liverpool & Everton

Cabbage head and Alex McLeish - Villa and Birmingham.

Lots of examples from the old firm.

Tevez- United & City

Owen- Liverpool & United.

I’m sure that list hasn’t even scratched the surface.

What makes Sheffield so special that one can’t switch to the dark/light side?

We have had players that have played for both clubs.

With Wilder it's probably different because Wilder is a United fan. While Benitez isn't a Liverpool or Everton fan.

I wrote that we all needed patience with this and not just a few weeks, so I have to go with the same with 8 games or so played. Without doubt however, there are causes for concern which will have to be ironed out, and my biggest fear is that it will simply lead to frustration if these are not attended to and soon.

1) Stick with a side. Pick an 11 and stick to it apart from poor performances and injuries, but in the main stick to it.

2) Have a plan of what needs to be changed if things go wrong in games.

3) Do we have a plan of any sort? it doesn't appear we have to the naked eye.

4) Players improve and gain consistency by playing games. Not in one week and out the next.

For now, I'd stick with him. There's no point in sacking him without any idea of who we can get in next. And lets not forget, we are not likely to pay a fee for anyone. So, we end up with and out of work manager.

Does it really matter though? If you were offered a high 6 figure or 7 figure sum to manage United, would you take it? I would. Win/Win scenario.

From the other point of view, if Wilder was the best manager in the world, would you still say no?

Because he’s (not) ‘ one of our own’ (whatever that means?) more than likely the same folk that ‘reject’ Wilder (still) want Megson 🤔

Plenty of S6 ——> S2 ( & successfully?)

Quinn (via Stockport)

Bromby

Geary

Dooley (none playing)

& less ‘successfully’

Curran

Morrison

Wilson (gaffer !?!?)

Loads of others played for both with varying degrees of ‘success’

Clarke

Windass (snr)

Marwood

Mattock

McGoldrick

Barrett

Cresswell

Bradshaw

Treacy

McMahon

Johnson

etc etc etc

Would be brilliant .....just to see the reaction. Half our fan base saying they’ll never set foot in Hillsborough while he’s manager, half of their fan base sat crying their eyes out and the other half saying he was crap anyway . Oh hang on that’s their fan base now.
