MATCHDAY FACTS

Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Danny Ward serves a one-match suspension for his sending off against Cardiff so Joel Coleman will deputise. Forward Elias Kachunga returns from his calf injury. But behind all the superlatives of head coach David Wagner's 18-month reign, a constant irritation has persisted; Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday striker Gary Hooper is an injury doubt so Jordan Rhodes could retain his place. The Owls made 10 changes for their final game of the regular season, with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood among those rested for the defeat by Fulham. On the plus side, Steven Fletcher is on form, Fernando Forestieri is fit again, Sam Winnall is always good for a goal and Jordan Rhodes was signed for these big games.

    ▪    Huddersfield lost both regular league meetings against the Owls this season without scoring a goal (2-0 away in January, 1-0 at home in October).

    ▪    Sheffield Wednesday have not lost any of their past seven matches against the Terriers (all Championship), since losing against them in November 2013 (W5 D2).

    ▪    Only two fifth-placed teams in the Championship have won promotion through the play-offs in the last 13 seasons - Crystal Palace in 2012-13 and Burnley in 2008-09.

    ▪    The team in fourth place has won the Championship play-offs in two of the past three campaigns (Hull in 2015-16 & QPR in 2013-14); this after a run 15 years without promotion for the fourth-placed side.

    ▪    Huddersfield will compete in the second tier play-offs for the first time in their history. They won promotion from the League One play-offs in 2011-12 with a victory on penalties over Sheffield United.

    ▪    Wednesday have reached the final of both play-off campaigns they have played in (4-2 AET v Hartlepool in League One 2004-05, lost v Hull in Championship 2015-16 final).

    ▪    Nahki Wells has four goals in three previous play-off appearances, all in the 2012-13 campaign for Bradford City; he won promotion from League Two with the Bantams.

    ▪    Ross Wallace scored in both legs of last season's Championship play-off semi-finals against Brighton.

    ▪    Fernando Forestieri has scored in each of his past three matches against Huddersfield in the Championship.

    ▪    David Wagner's team lost six of their final 10 Championship fixtures before the end of the regular season (W3 D1).

KING CARLOS’ PEARLS OF WISDOM

“Between the teams in the play-offs, everything starts again from zero. We are now into a new Championship. The table and the points never give mistakes to anyone. If the teams are nearer each other with similar points in a long marathon, it shows the teams have equal value. Last season when we went to the play-offs, everybody understands that Brighton were strong and fighting until the last second for direct promotion. Hull City were a team very strong, so too Derby and we were completely underdogs. The percentage of the possibilities were minimal to us. Because we deserved it, we beat one of the favourite teams Brighton and after we lose the final against another strong team. This seasons, I think the things are more balanced.

The play-offs are the start of a new competition. We are there because we have had a good season and Huddersfield are there because they have had a good season also. What has happened before that does not matter, all that matters now is what happens over these two games. We are workers and we are ready. We will go there and run a lot, fight a lot and show absolute determination to hopefully play our football and win the game. We have full respect for Huddersfield because they are a good side but we are a good side too. The nature of the play-offs dictates a swift turnaround time of the second leg, which unfolds at Hillsborough on Wednesday night. All the talking we have done this week is all about the first leg. When the final whistle goes on Sunday, we will then concentrate on the game on Wednesday. The players are thinking only of Sunday and they will be ready. All the squad will be ready.”

Big love to all the Wednesday family. I'm nervous as hell but we can definitely do this. Geniunely wouldn't swap our matchday 18 for any of the others in the playoffs, and that makes me feel good.

Come on you Owls. Clear heads, stout hearts and the very best of luck.

This game is beyond massive, although I've thought for a few weeks that this could just be our year, what's at stake means that I'm a bag of nerves ahead of this match.

If the players show up though and play to the best of their abilities then there's no reason why we can't bring a positive result back to Hillsborough... COME ON WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!
