He was trying to injure the Fulham player, it was an absolutely shithouse lunge, and if you're defending it you should probably take a bit of a look at your priorities really... swinners
An absolute cert red. Through the back of a player running towards the touch line in his own half with 20 seconds of injury time to play. When the ball goes out the ref would blow for half time. What a fool and completely spoilt a 'party' game where thousands had paid steep money to get in and watch. Why we continue to incur costs scouting over there is also beyond me. Waste of a wage because he's been extremely unlucky with injuries, because of this tackle or because you've got it in for him like a lot on this post? Etchesketch
Really? A tackle that on here has split opinion so there have been a lot worse clearly. I bet you didn't post that other players in the past who have commited worse tackles should aplogise.
Bouncing Owl
I can't believe people are arguing about this! It's a red card, end of! Stupid challenge.
legendaryswan
It was a red for me,the guy didnt even have the ball, and MMs foot was halfway up his calf God knows why he did that, only MM himself knows. Hes had very little game time, and is clearly way off the pace but that doesnt excuse his rashness that didnt help the cause. What Ive seen of him,he looks a really usefull player that should be an asset, sadley injuries have curtailed his progress here,I wouldnt be giving up on him just yet. Binky Griptite
Obviously a contentious decision so not as clear cut as the yellow card or red card brigade think. I don't think the referee can see it clearly. The stills show his body shape as the Fulham player crosses his field of vision. He see Mattias start his lunge, he sees the after effect but hes gone from looking in front of the Fulham player to behind him so doesn't see that its a one footed challenge at point of impact. Whether or not it was worthy of a red is as debatable as whether or not he actually saw it properly, if he didn't see it he has no right to give a red card. If it's a red card for the reckless intent then by the same standards MacDonald needed a red in the second half, if Hutchinson didn't 'duck out' of that challenge it was a potential leg breaker. 19owl08
According to Biggs on that ref show Iain Dowie has apparently said it shouldn't have been a red card.

Because of the little he has contributed to the cause over two full seasons, other than a fabulous goal against Leeds, for whatever reason. He's physically not up to the demands of the Championship IMO.

Exactly. Matias is getting hammered because he is not a fans favourite. More so than because of the tackle which is arguable judging by the inconclusive reaction.
