Sheffield Wednesday are sending a senior official to Bulgaria this week to hold talks over Lokomotiv Plovdiv youngster Eyad Hammoud. The forward is only 15 years old, but has already made his debut with the Bulgarian side.

Scouting Team have confirmed Greg Batten, Head of National and International Academy Recruitment at Sheffield Wednesday will travel to Bulgaria tomorrow. The Sheffield Wednesday official is expected to remain in the country for a couple of days, and the purpose of his trip to hold talks over Hammoud. It’s not been reported whether these are just initial talks or whether Sheffield Wednesday are ready to offer the youngster a trial.

Last year Hammoud made his senior debut, and in doing so became the second youngest player to play in the Bulgarian First Division. On his debut the young forward provided an assist in his side’s win, and has since gone on to make another two appearances for the club. Hammoud has also represented Bulgaria at youth level.

I know every club does this but always felt a little uneasy about these sort of deals to bring someone to another country who are essentially children.

if we don't do it then someone else will and they could possibly benefit. End of the day the lad will probably be eager to get a chance like the one we could offer.

It's done Barcelona some good over the years.

Just thinks its a bit unethical to pay for a child to come to another country in the hope that it might help you win a few football matches.

He won't get into the team as a child (well it's highly unlikely). End of the day this is what being a pro footballer is all about. You work hard and play well to hopefully get you recognised by big clubs. Although we are not Man Utd or Barca we are still a big club moving in the right direction and I'm sure if we asked if he wanted to come to us then he'd jump at the chance. Not to mention if he makes the first team then he'll be earning more than me or thee at the age of 20 something than. Not a bad trade off to move to a new country.

Surely his family come with him? I note from the FF article in the programme that his family moved to Italy with him and he was 4 years older at the time than this lad is.

Edit: having said that IIRC Andy Murray moved to Spain at age 13 without his family and it ain't turned out too badly for him, has it? lol

Seem to have contacts in Bulgaria nowadays, since we already have two U17 internationals in our academy

Can't go along with matthefish2002's concerns re exploitation of children though

If this young lad is as promising as the article suggests then the move is more likely to be mutually beneficial

Love the ultra-euro-techno-acid House in the background to some of the clips... Exactly the kind of music we should play before the match to wake some of the old tvvats on the South up.
