Team v Birmingham

Recommended Posts

Here's last season's team that murdered a stronger Birmingham side 3-0, with my swaps for next Friday in brackets.

Wildsmith (Westy)

Hunt

Hutch (Lees)

Loovens

Pudil (Reach)

Wallace

Lee (Hutch)

Bannan

FF

Hooper

Nuhiu (Rhodes)

In a team that can't score, you would rest Wallace who has scored 3 in 4?

Fair dos, it's a tough call. Depends who we've got at RB to some extent, but if it's Hunt then yes I'd be tempted to start Wallace on the bench - RW doesn't offer any cover at all.

Mind you, I'd be pretty surprised if it is Hunt.

I don't get to see all the games you guys do but I thought BB was excellent last night, particularly in the first half, he faded in the second. The idea of dropping him seems barmy.

Last night we were of course poor, but Wigan were a fit strong side well organised defensively, they won't be relegated.

Brum haven't won under Mr Zola, that in itself worries me ....it's bound to be against us!!

The thing that really peed me off was our inability to keep hold of the ball and string half a dozen passes together. Good result very poor performance, missing players or not.

For me, its mostly not about who Carlos picks but what he tells them to do.  True our fullbacks are not the quality of Roland or Nigel and our wingers are not Chrisie or Paolo but as a team we have the players to attack and dominate games more than we do.  Just stop the crab-like play ffs

Its to do with the formation too, as the commentators said last night Bannan and Jones were dominated by the Wigan midfield because they played 4-2-3-1. I think without Hutch in the middle 4-4-2 was the wrong choice for us. But Carlos never changes from that formation no matter who is or isn't available. It seems there really is only a plan A

(actually plan B is send Nuhiu on and hope for the best)

Westwood

Palmer ( neither choice is appealing)

Lees

Loovens

Fox

Mcmanaman

Hutchinson

Abdi

FF

Rhodes

Winnall

This is the team, especially at home.

Jones, bannan, reach are so defensive minded it's no wonder we're struggling to create/score.

all 3 are always too deep leaving the front men (and occasionally Wallace) isolated.

we need to start playing higher up the pitch with a high tempo & workrate without the ball.

Don't think we'll ever see Fernando on the left of s 4 man midfield no matter how people want it it.

Reach clearly brought it so we can play 442.

Personally think a front 3 would get best from us. But I'm not the gaffer.

Can see FF and Rhodes being the front pairing again.

You can't drop Wallace after scoring yet again.

Abdi has to grab the opportunity when he gets it to get his place.

It has to be:-

Westwood

Hunt

Lees

Loovens

Fox/Reach

Wallace

Hutch

Bannan

FF

Rhodes

Winnall

though I am keen for our full backs to be Fox Hunt

Carlos said in his pre-match interview that it is an option, so can't rule it out.
