adamnich
Is this to fit within FFP or was it because someone dropped a ball, we were late, and they've let us loan him now and buy in the summer?
aeroswfc
It will be to fit in with FFP.
agentwalker
Probably FFP. DC will probably be thinking. 1. We get promoted, that pays for it. 2. We don't get promoted, get on the phone to dad/family and sponsor the stadium.
adamnich
gives us time to off load a bit in the summer before the actual purchase maybe?
TheEnchanter
Great for us this I feel. Get Rhodes without the immediate pressure of £10Million over his head. We haven't committed the money yet.
Dazblur
The fact that it is this deal surely means that Boro can go back on this deal if really really want to, I think this is the reason it hit a snag in getting it over the line, Last night literally every result what could go against Boro did, Not surefire that they remain in the prem and looks a very rocky ride, Really can't help but think Gibson will feel the needful thing is to have the Rhodes deal as something he can pull the plug on if they do go down, After all Rhodes is immense in this league (Why they signed him in the first place)
Doghouse Daz
Very clever , astute dealings. 3 year season tickets to get funds in , players out on loan , Rhodes on loan and buy later. DC is going for it this season for the anniversary. Believe.

If Boro want him back, they will have to offer 20m.

Whatahoot
Our year end is at the end of May, so the vast majority of this fee will fall into next year, with only loan fee/ up front payment falling due in current year. Thus help our FFP position. Will be interesting to see if full fee increases if we get promoted and any sell on clauses attached, which could have kept overall fee down somewhat. Just hope he proves to be worth whatever we have paid. Time ( and goals) will tell.

Unfortunately doesn't work like that anymore, it will be more like the payment terms will change I.e over a longer period. Obviously I'm guessing like everyone else. Daavies;
We've probably paid about £3m in Loan fee than agreed £7m in summer if I had to guess
southportdc
Potentially, it's to do with how the FFP cost is spread. The £10m (if it is) will now be spread over four years starting next season, which might be useful given we've already spent quite a lot this season (Abdi/Reach). Guest Kameron
FFP is over a 3 year period so any transfer paid now or in may will still be in the same period.
