why is the signing a "a loan now, buy later" deal?

Recommended Posts

The fact that it is this deal surely means that Boro can go back on this deal if really really want to,

I think this is the reason it hit a snag in getting it over the line,

Last night literally every result what could go against Boro did, Not surefire that they remain in the prem and looks a very rocky ride,

Really can't help but think Gibson will feel the needful thing is to have the Rhodes deal as something he can pull the plug on if they do go down,

After all Rhodes is immense in this league (Why they signed him in the first place)

The deal is done - he signs permanent in the summer.

If Boro want him back, they will have to offer 20m.

Our year end is at the end of May, so the vast majority of this fee will fall into next year, with only loan fee/ up front payment falling due in current year. Thus help our FFP position. Will be interesting to see if full fee increases if we get promoted and any sell on clauses attached, which could have kept overall fee down somewhat. Just hope he proves to be worth whatever we have paid. Time ( and goals) will tell.

Probably FFP. DC will probably be thinking.

1. We get promoted, that pays for it.

2. We don't get promoted, get on the phone to dad/family and sponsor the stadium.

Point 2. Unfortunately doesn't work like that anymore, it will be more like the payment terms will change I.e over a longer period.

Obviously I'm guessing like everyone else.

is this right? so they can't change their minds if they get relegated?

and also we cannot change our minds (not that we would)?

I would guess there is a binding agreement in place to stop this happening.

i though something along the same lines, but admittedly i don't have a clue how these things work so it was probably a bit of wishful thinking
