Everton still keen on signing George Hirst

Recommended Posts

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are determined to push through a deal for Sheffield Wednesday teenager George Hirst before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The Toffees have added two new faces to their squad so far this month, as midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and attacker Ademola Lookman arrived from Manchester United and Charlton Athletic respectively.

However, with less than a week of the transfer window left to go, Everton could yet bring in more new faces, and they appear to be focusing their attention on a young striker.

The Liverpool Echo report that Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst is a top target for Everton, and they have set their sights on landing the teenager before the transfer deadline.

Hirst, 17, has come up through the ranks with the Owls, and the striker – whose father is ex-Wednesday and England striker David Hirst – has been touted for a huge future.

Hirst already has two appearances for the Wednesday first team to his name, and he's even scored six times in 12 games for England at youth level.

The 6ft 3in attacker is now wanted by Everton, and it's claimed that the Toffees are determined to land Hirst before Tuesday's deadline, just months after they raided Wednesday's rivals Sheffield United for a young striker in Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It's stated that Wednesday are reluctant to let Hirst leave the club, but Everton are pushing to strike a deal in the new few days in the hope of finally convincing Wednesday into selling.

I see very little reason why they'd need to do this before this particular deadline. It's not like he's going into their team, and I doubt his value will change much between now and the summer. If they really want him they'll just come back then.

Money talks. £10m and they can have him. We can't turn big money down for unproven talent. What we need is proven talent now, to get us where we want to be quickly. Only when we get there can we turn down the money.
