Socialist_Owl
Didn't get off the bench today. Steve Bruce has no idea how to use him.

Bit like us with Winnall who can't even get ON the bench at the moment. Barnsley fans are doing their nut that they've lost two of their best players and yet they're not even getting into the first team. Although in Winnall's case most of them are quite enjoying it. I'm not having a go at you of course... but I really don't get this logic. Surely it highlights just how far off of us they are (even though they were bleating just a few short months ago about being our 'play off rivals'). They kept harping on about how we were only buying their 'best player' to 'sabotage their play-off campaign' (implying they're a one-man team if simply removing Winnall sees them drop out of the pack) and then they kept saying how he wouldn't even get regular first-team footie with us. Doesn't that tell you something if one of their self-confessed best players (probably in the top 3 and even the most stubborn of Barnsley fans would have admitted top 5 best players) can't even get into our matchday 18? Yet they still insisted they were realistically going to catch us? Seems like they both wanted to have their cake and eat it. Their bitterness towards the whole situation reeks of a small-club mentality and if that's the way they're going to hold themselves then the best they will ever be able to hope for is mid-table Championship mediocrity. OwlofOliveGrove
Not sure whether we can state this is funny or tragic. Would definitely be crying with laughter if Winnall was getting more of a look in at Hillsborough. Atm though it's just mildly tickling.

SiJ
There's a huge step up from playing at a club like Barnsley to playing for an Aston Villa (or for us). Big Fish in a small, inbred, contaminated pond. Captain fantastic etc., to being part of one of the biggest clubs in the division with a huge, expectant fanbase. Football is littered with players who made big moves that turned out to be the wrong ones. Wouldn't surprise me at all if you see Connor Hourihane making a move in the summer or next January due to a lack of game time. Still think that Villa's transfer "policy" was to just sign any player who was in a bit of form.

Jota on the other hand, what a bloody player he is. I don't tend to focus on opposition players that much at Wednesday games but when he played for Brentford at Hillsborough in one of Stuart Gray's last home games he was absolutely spellbinding - we won 1-0, but there was no doubt who the man of the match was, what a talent. Jota looks class above at this level, but so soes Woods who I didn't rate one bit while he was at Shrewsbury, and who is very important in how they are set to play. I say - sign both of them. PuntItLikeDielna
Jota and Woods would be superb signings. Sawyers, Vibe and McEachran are also good

Karl
Didn't Brentford actually loan Jota out at the beginning of this season until January? Weird decision if so given his recent form.

Very few of their signings end up being flops for them... they have a method and a player to fit that method and they got and get.

Turns 35 next month though and he's cult hero at Norwich, imagine he'll stay with them and help them go back up and eventually retire with them - can't see him leaving & attacking midfielders don't suit CC's system. Jota is a very class player, he would be a good buy for this level, has had troubles with being away from Spain though in the past and with his current form i'd image he might prefer a move back home. 34 minutes ago, PuntItLikeDielna said: Jota and Woods would be superb signings. Sawyers, Vibe and McEachran are also good Brentford's scouting team are brilliant and some of the transfer business they have done has been excellent. Players like Scott Hogan, Andre Gray, Moses Odubajo, Stuart Dallas all young talented players who have done very well with them and been sold for good prices - plus they still have Alan Judge to return from injury who was the best winger in the division last year. McEachran looks a talent, would be a good buy for teams looking to build a promotion winning side! As mentioned by @SiJ, Hourihane is a decent little player and it's easy to stand out when the team is built around you and how you like to play, similar to what's happening with Winnall. Much harder to stand out when your surrounded by other players as good and better than you are, especially in a much bigger club, expectations are far bigger and Villa fans will expect him to perform every game. He'll struggle to get a game alongside Lansbury who is by far the superior player, even more so if Bruce sticks to a 442 or 433...only room for 1 CAM in those formations. Winnall was a strange signing too, obvious short term replacement for Hooper which seemed okay given his form and low price.. or so I thought until we spent £10million on Rhodes. Now with all our strikers fit he won't get a game and will surely be sold if we go up to the PL in the summer, even if we don't i can't see him staying. Can't blame them for wanting to take huge salary increases and the opportunity to play for bigger clubs at a higher level, Barnsley peaked this season & last and it will be back to relegation scraps for them next year.
