pauli 17,560 Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) TODAY’S OPPOSITES Right then! Proper football at home on a Saturday afternoon at three o’ clock. None of this early kick off and having to go to Wales nonsense. I expect everyone to do the right thing and be in the pub by 11 at the very latest. In 1973, Freddy Mercury had sold 5 billion records and was desparately looking for a way to not give the tax man any more of his money. Band mate and bass player, John Deacon came up with the idea of buying a large tract of countryside near Landan and populating it with wild animals from Africa. This made Freddy very happy as he originally came from Africa and was also spending loads more money, flying back whenever he got homesick. While incredibly expensive, he dearly missed the adrenalin thrill of being chased across the savannah by hyenas or narrowly avoiding being eaten alive by ravenous crocodiles. He also really liked wandering about in a grass skirt and enjoying the pleasant African breeze as it caressed his goolies. Not to mention having some strapping fellow tickle his buttocks with ostrich feathers before bedtime. But anyway… The land was duly purchased and the animals were delivered. There were monkeys, lions, giraffes and everything! It was a glorious summer and Freddy decided on his very first visit, while wrestling with two gorillas at once, that he would let the public in too. Everyone should be able to go on safari and he could even sell tickets. Of course it didn’t take long though, before the thieving Landaners started nicking stuff. Some bugger even stole a baby impala. Freddy was furious but determined to carry on. He employed 22 wardens to supervise the public and take care of the animals. The idyllic atmosphere was soon disrupted once more - summer turned to autumn and it was the coldest October on record. The animals all had to go into shelters as it never got that cold in Africa and they were not used to it. With the public locked out, the animals could be looked after by a handful of staff. Freddy was upset. He didn’t want to make his loyal staff redundant and needed an idea quickly. So he did what he always did in times of crisis and got his mate Elton John on the phone. Elton was in hospital as it happened, recovering from falling through three wooden floors in a windwill whilst still playing the piano on tour in Amsterdam. He was still sharp as a needle though… “Freddy” he said; “Freddy moy san, lissan. Form them into a football team and call them Queens Park Rangers. My lads will give them a game.” And so it was done and that’s how we come to be playing them today! IMPORTANT THINGS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Venue: Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield. Kick Off: Saturday the 22nd of October at 15:00 Matchday Apparel: Home Shirt, massive flags. No maracas. No breaking other folk's stuff. Matchday Drink: 16 pints of proper Sheffield beer. Matchday Pie: Lion and onion. Matchday Song: "Quest" by System 7... MATCHDAY FACTS Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is doubtful with a back injury that forced him to go off in the midweek draw at Cardiff. Cameron Dawson will deputise if he fails to recover, and Barry Bannan and Steven Fletcher are back in contention. QPR will check on Joel Lynch and Jordan Cousins, who both went off in the win over Bristol City on Tuesday. Left-back Jake Bidwell (shoulder) is out, while forward Jamie Mackie (ankle) is a long-term absentee. Head To Head ▪ Sheffield Wednesday have won four of their last six home league games against the Hoops (D1 L1). ▪ QPR are without a clean sheet in their last 10 visits to Hillsborough in league competition; the last Rangers keeper to record a shutout there was Sieb Dijkstra in a Premier League game in December 1994. ▪ After suffering back-to-back defeats against Newcastle and Huddersfield, the R's have gone five games unbeaten (W2 D3). ▪ The Owls have lost just two of their last 12 home league games (including play-offs), winning eight. ▪ QPR had 21 attempts (including blocked efforts) versus Bristol City; their joint-highest figure in a league game under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (also v Brighton, December 2015). ▪ Sheffield Wednesday have scored more goals in the 90th minute or later than any other Championship side this season (4). KING CARLOS’ PEARLS OF WISDOM “We are playing well, we are competitive and absolutely sure at this point last season, we were not playing with the same quality that we are playing now. It is important to be in a good position, of course, but we are still in the beginning of the season. With the Championship, if you have a good week it is normal you can go right up. If you have a bad week you can come back down. This is nine points we have discussed in the space of just a few days, so it can make a big difference. So position at the moment isn’t the most important but of course we wish to be more near the first positions.” MINTYNESS Edited October 21, 2016 by pauli

Mr. Tom 9,510 Posted October 22, 2016 Top job Pauli. We've been saying all season that we're waiting for about seven final 'clicks' and then we're gonna STUFF someone. This is that day. I feel it waaaaay deep in my waters. 4-1 Owls, 2-0 at half time. Let's make that coach trip back longer than Udders' unbeaten streak.
