Birley Owl 1867
The new rule is that if the player has made a genuine attempt to win the ball he can't be sent off. If he doesn't then that is still a red card. Not sure which category Hutchinson falls into Edited September 13, 2016 by Birley Owl 1867

snaykz
1) It's only a yellow if the player was making a genuine attempt to play the ball, otherwise it's still a red (Still harsh tho given that Hutch slipped over) 2) It's only a 1 match ban. MAL
Just watched it again, and i don't know what i was looking at before. He gave a straight red, the clown.

Greenhgate Owl
I was in the away end (cheaper tonight) and hutch didnt need to go for it as Westwood had it . but he didnt get the ball and was a pen .yellow at most as the fouled player wouldnt have got a shot

We need to get rid of this ridiculous notion that of you win the ball it can't be a foul. Tackle from behind. Yellow card.
vulva
I thought the referee gave O'neill a straight red for that tackle rather than a second yellow?
darra
2nd yellow

He stumbled and fell into their player so yes it probaly was a penalty but not sure about the card as it could be argued it wasn't deliberate. 3 match ban as well. Wonder if we'll appeal it? Mate pointed out that last man does not equal sending off and penalty anymore, just pen and booking if area. Rule change. I said but he rugby tackled him, but if he stumbled he shouldn't of gone. Bizarrely it swung the game with them missing pen.

darra
so a referee not knowing a rule change that he was no doubt told about a few weeks ago could have resulted in us losing the game after having a player wrongly sent off. Just isnt good enough and needs addressing
kingsidney
To be fair Hutch is lucky this is not the 3rd or 4th penalty he's given away this season.
1/10/1983
Having seen it, this one is a little difficult to iron out. It is difficult to say Hutch made a genuine attempt for the ball but it is clearly a genuine slip/stumble. You could argue it is not even a foul, but I think it will most likely be seen as a clumsy foul, penalty and a yellow. Which still adds up to a one game ban... Binky Griptite
Could be argued it was a genuine attempt, whether you are trying to tackle them with your head or your foot should be immaterial.
