Does anybody think that putting FF down the right would be a mistake as some have suggested. Seems like he's being shoe horned in if we play him there. One of his best attributes is cutting in onto the RB weaker foot.

Personally I don't see him getting round the back on the right. An average full back will just close the space to the touchline and force FF on to his weaker foot. I would like to see him compete with Reach for the left side slot and whoever wins that little tussle means we have a very good asset on the left.

I said I would collate the results, and here they are.

The 442 team for Wigan picked by the Owlstalk Selection Committee (God forbid):-

Westwood

Palmer

Lees

Hutch

Pudil

Lee

Abdi

Bannan

Reach

Forestieri

Fletcher

Defence and attack were quite clear. Abdi and Reach were shoe-ins in midfield but Abdi's CM partner and RW were totally split.

RB - Palmer 17, Hunt 13, Lee 5

LB - Pudil 29, Reach 6

CB - Lees 35, Hutch  27, Loovens 6

RW - Lee 9, Buckley 8, Bannan 7, FF 5, Wallace 3

LW - Reach 23, FF 11

CM - Abdi 26, Lee 18, Bannan 17, Hutch 3

CF - Fletcher 32, FF 16, Hooper 11, Joao 8

Some really interesting points emerge imo.

1. Unanimously no-one wants Abdi left.

2. Conclusively Abdi first choice central.

3. Tom Lees (and of course Westy) easily fans first pick.

4. Fletcher big fans favourite

5. Wallace has lost fan confidence

6. First choice CM pick very divided

7. I need to find a new hobby.

I put Abdi RM, sure you counted right?

I counted right but didn't list every vote. Your Abdi RW vote for example, plus one vote for Hutch at RB, one vote for Hirst at CF etc...

Ah yep makes sense. But I feel that basically our fans, off the back of a couple of bad results, and because football fans are basically fickle- they just want Abdi in the centre and Reach at LM based on that they are new and different.. But it would be more sensible in my opinion to keep the core of the team from last year and let the new recruits blend in gradually

Has anybody actually ever seen Reach play at LB?

35 fans picked their 442 for Wigan in this thread, and many of us picked at least one player out of their best position.

Reach at LB and RW.

Lee at RB and RW.

FF at RW.

Bannan at RW and LW.

It will get even more fun when Jones is available.

I don't imagine Lee or Reach will play full back, so FIVE of the following quality players will be benched:

Fletcher

Hooper

Joao

Buckley

Wallace

FF

Reach

Bannan

Lee

Abdi

Jones

Its not surprising fans and Carlos are tempted to try to fit players into strange roles.
