He knows the club and the league very well and can play on the wing if needed. It also means that Pudil can cover centre back as we have a quality left back to stand in for him. You've missed the most important point. it means we can get rid of Helan.

stowyowl
Didn't he play three league games and we kept clean sheets in all three last season? Tricky games too; Hull, Brighton and someone else. I'm happy with this.

Agree completely, and I'd be happy to see him back here but it seems an odd signing. ie that Villa would let him go to a league rival? Seems strange. If they don't value him them maybe it will go through. Will he be our next Tom Lees (albeit that there will probably be a fee involved).

joelswfc
Joe Bennett is closing in on a permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday, the Birmingham Mail understands. Aston Villa’s Championship rivals have been keen on the 26-year-old all summer and are expected to sign the left-back in the next 24 hours. Bennett was left out of Villa’s opening day defeat at Hillsborough as boss Roberto Di Matteo favoured Aly Cissokho and Jordan Amavi ahead of the ex-Middlesbrough man. And providing he passes a medical today, Bennett will become a Wednesday player. His attack-minded ways had won over fans during pre-season but Di Matteo decided that the two Frenchmen were his favoured left-backs.
WalthamOwl
Good enough to step up to the Premiership when we get promoted? Would guess he played in the prem with Boro as well as Villa?

Well that can't happen if it's a permanent deal.
Bluesteel
a permanent signing would be a bit of a coup as I think he looked promising. Certainly better than that donkey cissoko they had playing the other day.
cookeh
Happy enough with getting him in. Seems reliable and gives us an extra bit of depth that we need. But yeah.. Palmer is almost certainly tonight's left back.
