Atkinson's return in 1991

Recommended Posts

Best example you'll ever get of a manager winning a game....we battered them first half.....at half time they dropped even deeper and we pushed up ....every time they got the ball they smashed it over our heads for Dalian et al to run on to and the rest is history

I remember loads of Villa fans walking past the park, after the game, singing:

"Thank you very much for Atkinson

Thank you very much

Thank you very, very very much"

Gutted.

And we sang;

Oh Ronnie Ronnie,

Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie,

Fat bar steward

Judas.

I remember Hirsty's goal calming the mood and the first time I've ever randomly hugged another supporter at a football game.

What a goal that was.

Best goal I've ever seen in my eyes. World class

First match after I had moved my season ticket from the kop to  the north stand. The kop was still standing and I would preferred to have had the last season on there but me and my mates wanted to reserve good seats in the north before the inevitable exodus from the ruined kop.

The venom aimed at Atkinson as he came out before the game was amazing. I have never forgiven him for his decision to leave. Imo it cost us the title. Time does not heal all old wounds.
