Wembley Allocations - FA or Football League to blame?

Recommended Posts

It's not just the FA that are losing money - both clubs are losing money as well.

10,000 empty seats multiplied by say £50 odd each (to allow for concessions) is £500,000.

Good job nobody wanted that money.....

The other seats go to those that have no interest in either Wednesday or Hull. but are invited buy companies as part of a hospitality package. They just go to get ratted. Just look at all the empty seats after half time at any match at Wembley. You see them staggering back to their seats 15 mins after the 2nd half has started.

Our average is a lot lower than it would have been due to ticket prices this season.

Aye ..true for the most part mate....£30 was a ridiculous price...

Now theres folk prepared to spunk a whole season ticket amount on the one weekend...

Some people eh?

This is the richest prize in football !

We've sold out our full allocation at prices ranging up to £98 (and much more for those

choosing VIP packages)

Then all you two want to do is hi-jack this thread and use it as another opportunity to

to knock the club over this seasons pricing policy  again !

FFS, just give it a rest for once !!

My two pence worth on the matter:

Allowing both teams the same allocation initially is a 'fair' way to do it. They're not going to sit there and work out average attendances, average percentages, percentages against costs or whatever else people seem to be basing their assumptions that we were always going to sell more on. Yes, we knew we'd sell out because we know we're absolutely massive like. But no one else should be expected to know that. Same number for each team is 'fair'. Would it be fair for Man Utd to have been given 80% of Wembley for the FA Cup Final because they've got tons more fans than Palace? No.

That initial number allocated to each club probably shouldn't have been the full 39,000. They should have held some back on each side, maybe 5000 tickets for each team, so you have 10,000 saved.

The big money seats are Tier 1, these are only situated on the South side of the venue. Split these and sell them as part of the allocation. On the North side of the ground you have a mixture of Tier 2, 3 and 4 seats, and also the corporate/neutral seats. The 10,000 saved could possibly have been the seats on that side of the ground? Of corse it's leaving good seats to chance, ones which may not get sold, but they're logistically able to hold them back and assess sales.

Then, if sales for one team are higher they can release the 'spares' to the other side and can justify this decision by the ticket sales. And if both teams aren't selling out they can release them to the neutral/anyone who wants to buy a ticket. That way they have a better chance of making a full ground and not losing out on revenue, and the atmosphere will be better for everyone involved.

From Hull's perspective, they were always going to go for the maximum amount even if they knew they wouldn't sell them. The worst that can happen is they get a few people taking the p!ss that they can't sell their allocation. If they only took 30k or whatever then the worst that can happen is that other 9k go to the opposition, and potentially another 9k owls are roaring the massive on, which could make all the difference.

TL;DR summary: ticket allocations were 'fair' but still don't really make much sense.

1] This will be the last time folk are caught by surprise - we all need to get used to it.

2] Wembley will lose a substantial amount of revenue now - they need to issue clubs with 25000 each as an initial batch starting on each side of the tunnel then round. The release a block segments at a time. Its stupidly simple and it beggars belief that this system has not been in place since it was built.

The Welsh had it spot on.

Bang on.

You spend all season slating fans with an 'I'm alright Jack' attitude and then come out with this!

You ask what could have been done? Well given that we average plenty more than Hull home and away and Hull have previous for not selling their allocation then just maybe they could have held back a couple of blocks on their side of the halfway line and monitored sales.

So, you saw the first two posts but missed the next one??

No, actually, I do agree.

But Hull have averaged just over 5k less than us this season.

Why would the FA (or whoever allocated the tickets) assume we would sell so many more?

It was a genuine question

Interesting....
