Wembley Virgins

Recommended Posts

Went to all the 90's ones. Remember the first one, Rumbelows final and how disappointed I was with the place. The Match made up for it though.

Been to the new one to see American Football and equally disappointed. I'm sure it will be a completely different experience with The Wednesday though.

I thought Cardiff was better than either.

New / Old Wembley are simply big, but apart from that seemed uncomfortable and "not quite the same" as a real football ground.

I'd prefer final to be at Old Trafford.

So, who hasn't been to the new Wembley yet?

Better still, who else has never been to either Wembley, new or old?

I'm sure I'm far from alone on here, but this will be the first opportunity I've ever had to go to our national stadium to support Wednesday. I was there in Cardiff, but I've never been to Wembley. In the early 90s I remember watching from afar on the TV with my auntie and uncle while my parents were away in London and I'm sure they didn't realise at the time that that was going to be their last opportunity to take me with them for over 20 years.

Much like the guy who phoned Football Heaven the other day, I don't think I could have gone to Wembley to watch any other event before seeing Wednesday play there. It would have felt like cheating.

I'm looking forward to hopefully being blown away by the place, just the same as I was in Wales, but potentially even more so. Can't wait.

Also never been. I was living in S.Africa and could not get back in 1991 or 93.  I'm certainly looking forward to this one. Hopefully some serious celebrations in the West End on the Saturday night.

Was just a young during our last visit so this will be my first visit.

Really looking forward to experiencing it. Hope we can get some more tickets from hull. Be great to see 45,000+ fans dominating Wembley.

Old Wembley was magnificent - saw the '79 cup final between Arsenal and Man Utd, was also at the '81 replay - Spurs v City when Ricky Villa scored THAT goal! Saw Wednesday in 91 and 93 of course.

Only been to new stadium for NFL games but I don't like it, it's a soulless concrete monstrosity. Extortionate costs for food and beer (£9 a pint three years ago).

That said, can't wait to be there on the 28th, stadium won't know what's hit it!

It's not £9 a pint it's £5

Never got to go to old Wembley and I actually worked on the construction of new Wembley and still never been back lol.

Funny story: I was working on the roof painting steel on beams before pitch was laid, couple of hundred lads working around the pitch on stands and roof, suddenly we hear a roar. Look down see a fat lad in hivis running on to pitch with big England flag out to middle of the park (just gravel at the time). He stops, plants flag in ground and with a flourish pulls 2 small cones out from jacket. Places these on floor to make a goal. Cheering from round site increases as he then pulls a ball out, walks slowly away, turns and place ball down, and paces back for a run up, noise crescendo, he steps up and side foots the ball home scoring first goal at Wembley, site goes mental we were Cheering and weeing ourself. The guy scored a few more including crawling along and heading the ball over the line before security arrive giving chase, he picks up the flag and legs it up the stands to where the Royal box was gonna be be before collapsing in an out of breath heap to the cheers of site, then escorted out by security. Heard he'd been sacked beforehand and just thought "fornicate it".

Anyway that's the only goal, the first ever at Wembley I've seen so desperate to see Wednesday score a few!

Been to new one 4 or 5 times

This is the first time I'll actually give a t0ss about the result though, never thought we'd be going to Wembley without having to get relegated again first

Born in 92 so never went to the old Wembley and never been to the new.

Was offered a free ticket to go to the Palace Play-Off final the other year by my cousin as her mate dropped out, but refused to go.

Also been working in London when England have been at home but refused to go. Walking out into the stadium like that for a Wednesday game is part of the excitement and all adds to the day.

So glad I waited.

Never been to the new. Never seen Wednesday at the old.

In the 90's had two young kids and no money.

Last time I went to Wembley it was standing.

Saw Wimbledon beat Liverpool in the FA cup.

Went to Cardiff

Went to the old Wembley just the once, saw Chesterfield v Bury in a playoff final (I think) it was a free ticket and I think I was only 10 or something went with my mate and his dad. The thing that sticks in my memory was we sat on wooden seats. But not even sure if they actually had wooden seats or not or if I dreamt it.

Been to the new Wembley numerous times. Seen many bad England friendlies and go to all the NFL games.

Went to the old one once with a load of Palace-supporting friends to see them beat the Blunts in the 1997 Play-offs. I would've been able to get tickets for the 1991 League Cup Final, but my dad decided the tickets he was offered were too expensive (£24 each). Cheers Dad.

Been to the new one twice. Firstly for the first NFL match there to support the Miami Dolphins in 2007, and then I saw an England friendly against Slovakia. Surprisingly, it was at the England friendly that saw football violence first-hand for the very first time - an England fan and a Slovakia fan had a full-on fight in the concourse at half-time. Blood everywhere.
