vulva
All I've read on here is how much money we will make from the play offs and if we get promoted. I thought it was all about playing at Old Traford, Emirates and Goodison. Obviously not, as no one as mentioned that bit. I do wonder where football will be in 20 years. All games played behind closed doors and screened live to IPhones whilst people drink expressos outside Bragazzis? Starting to watch football in the early 80's, having World Cups on Spain, Mexico and Italy, with Euro 96 to follow has made me realise my formative football years were during one of the great eras. Kids these days don't realise how crap football is these days how much the money has ruined it.
TheWednesdayFC
More money = more players like FF. Simple, really.

TrickyTrev
I agree 100% but sadly that's the nature of the beast now... You either move with the times or you get left behind like we did. Promotion would be amazing for Sheffield Wednesday purely from a financial perspective, we could go up, lose every week 5-0 and get relegated with £170m in the bank which would finally sort this club out from top to bottom. Is that right? Probably not, no!! Was football better 20 years ago when this sort of money wasn't in the game? Absolutely yes!!! For better or for worse however that's the modern game now and the reality is the biggest impact promotion would have on our club would be financial. After years of struggling as a club financially, you cam hardly blame the fans for focussing on that.
vulva
The whole thing is a false economy. We might get £100m for going up, but all that does is increase the cost of 'that striker from Senegal' from £5m 2 years ago to £10m now. The whole model is flawed. But then we're gonna do a Leicester, win the league & sign Ronaldo. Then rule football & beat City 7-0. Vengeance will be sweet.

I just wonder how long it would take for the novelty of losing 6-0 to Man City to wear off? For entertainment, honesty and competition the Championship is the place to be. General_Grievous
Only players and wages are like that. The rest (development of stadium, training ground, academy etc) remains the same
Captain Sl-OWL-ly
SKY was infiltrating the game 20 years ago - FACT... Let's be reyt the PL was set up to make money and we were one of the founding clubs that wanted it, let's not also forget that the original idea was that it should have been a "closed" league, had it been we wouldn't have been so fuuuucked but thankfully (now) it still hasn't been so we have a chance to get back there... In the 50's we were known as the yoyo team cos (apparently) we kept getting promoted and relegated, imagine how much we would be worth if that happened now ? S36 OWL
Ive always said money has ruined football Once upon a time it was about winning the premier league, now its about finishing in the top four to secure champions league millions. Once upon a time the big clubs saw the FA Cup as a prestigious tournament , now they see it as as clogging up the fixture list and play the reserves as finishing in the top four is more important. The league cup has become a second rate trophy as finishing forth is worth more to the club.
Herb
This season from Leicester and the calibre of players now heading to the likes of Stoke do make it far more appealing heading up to the Prem. I'm quite happy winning most weeks currently though, promotion would just be a bonus.
vulva
People always moan about how things were better when they were younger. Not at all. Life is far better now than in the 80's. But you can't tell me football is. It's televised better, and marketed superbly, but the quality of football and level of competition is no where near. Just because you can see Lionel Messi do his little flicks in super HD doesn't make him a better player than Boniek? Who by the way didn't have the benefit of HD, super slow mo and Levante away live at 5.30pm.

gurujuan
As someone who always makes a beeline for Bragazzi's, match day mornings, it's the only way to kick start the day, I do know though what you're getting at. Leicester have given us all a bit of hope, but for the main, it will all be about the money, and the Premier League is where we have to be.
