Wath-owl
Does anyone else think that this is a bigger advantage than playing at home in the second leg? Being at home second then there is a chance you could be 2 or 3 goals down going into the match, and that would really flatten the atmosphere, even more so if the opposites got an early goal. Many people might not even bother turning up for it in that scenario. Being at home first though will have everyone buzzing from the first minute, and you know that even if you go a goal down then there is still a lot of time left in the tie to get back into it, so nerves are less likely to creep onto the pitch from the stands. If you get a lead going into the second leg then it will be their fans that are nervous and all of the pressure will be on them with only 90 minutes left in the tie. It's a bit like Cricket. If the conditions are good then you always want to bat first and set a good target, rather than be the ones chasing. What do people reckon? Do you think it matters which way around the fixtures are? OzOwl
who cares we are there that's all that matters Sorry trev but that thinking was all good and well prior. Now we need a plan, this is worth a lot of finance to the club, you cannot get so excited at what we have acheived that the enormity passes you by. We really need to care.
agentwalker
even had some deluded mates down the pub saying we should keep it tight in the first leg, go for the draw then do them in the away leg.
smhouston
It can work the opposite. If it's all evens after first game, it'd be great having home advantage second leg to drive your team across the finish line
slinger208b
No. It's about scoring goals and getting a lead regardless of the location...
31Dec1966
We played well at Brighton, and, with a weak side had a good 2nd half at Middlesborough. A good 0-0 at Hull and a fine 1-1 at Derby. Home first is a plus, if we play like we did at Derby and v cardiif we could have a two goal lead, and we've proved we can get a draw at top sides grounds. No fear and trust in Carlos! nebneeb
We need to go for it at home and really take the game to them. Allowing it to be a cagey affair by trying to ensure we don't lose would be a mistake (this is almost certainly going to be the plan of the opposition). I expect us to play like we did against Cardiff, getting at them from the start, wearing them down, and scoring a few goals. Then we can pick them off on the break in the 2nd leg which also plays to our strengths.
danblakemore
Plus we are at home against a team who will be gutted after missing out on automatic. Knock em for six in first leg, jobs a good un
Mr Farrell
Can work both ways. It's better on the whole being the away team first, unless you are the home team, in which case it's best to be away second. On rare occasions though the advantage sits with the home team second and the away team after this.
joelswfc
Could be an advantage, might not be. If we could win the home leg that would be absolutely fantastic and a springboard to send us through.
Ronio
It gives us a definite advantage imo,but it means we need to set the pace nice and early. Failure to do so, will effectively screw us up.

Sonny
Six and two threes init. So hopefully 9-3 to us on aggregate.
Blame Harkes
With no away goals rule, I would think the advantage is that if tied at the end of the second leg, extra time/shootout is at home. I'd love to see us start the second leg with a lead, and be able to hit back on the counter against a pressing side.
