Burnley promoted, could play into our hands?

Recommended Posts

Burnley have just confirmed promotion, which leaves boro and brighton to battle it out for the other place against each other next week.
I can't help but think its going to play into our hands, its effectively a play off final, they are both going to have to put a lot into the game.

We know we can't finish anywhere other than 6th, can rest key plays and generally take it steady if need be.

Those two teams are going to have to put it all in, it could result in cards, injuries and the loosing team are then going to have to get over the fact they've missed out on an automatic spot to beat us.

I've been saying for a while that we had a high pressure game and smashed through it. So we're already prepared for that big game environment. Whoever doesn't make it won't necessarily have bottled it, but will have come up short in the same high pressure environment at the very least. That's a positive we should really push home to the players.

Can we please get it out our heads that whoever doesn't go up next Saturday is automatically going to be down in the dumps and we can expect an easy ride.

Obviously we're not expecting an easy ride but there will be a massive psychological difference.

I didn't say an easy ride, i just said they are going to be gutted and have to pick themselves back up to beat us, as well as the high pressure coming with that game next week.

It all adds to the melting pot, and i think in this case more than a normal race for promotion, as it isn't usual that two teams playing for the last place play each other on the last day. Which means who ever misses out has to watch their winning rival celebrate.

Boro and Brighton have to play their strongest team next saturday in a mentally draining game where as we can leave our entire first team at home with their feet up and send the reserves to play Wolves

I hope theres two sending's off each, injuries galore and the managers have a punch up and are banned to the stands. That'd help us

I'd like to think we would get behind the team more than Burnley fans did today. The fans can transmit the mood onto the pitch and we did the right thing Saturday. I don't think the result was in doubt.

Burnley up...What a drab little lack lustre Town and Team they are. 20 odd games unbeaten how've they managed that ?

Was just thinking the same. Their brand of football is really shitty but I suppose as long as you score 1 more than your opponents that's all that matters.

The fact is whoever misses out on promotion are much better than us as the league table doesn't lie.

The other fact is that they're going to be crushed and exhausted after 95 minutes of grueling footie, whereas we've had almost two weeks where we can do nothing but rest and prepare as a team in a low pressure in environment. That's a leveller to me. Add on the fact the opening tie is at Hillsborough, and if my prediction is right, it's going to be Brighton having to do the 200+ mile trip up here after their 300+ mile trip a few days beforehand, then I think we'd have a distinct psychological and physical advantage.

Does that automatically mean we'll win? Of course not, but I fear no-one at Hillsborough this season and if we can take advantage of our form at home and win the first leg, then all that'll do is kick the opposition while they're down.

At the very least circumstance has levelled the playing field between 3rd and 6th... and for that we can be both thankful and optimistic.

I've watched more than my fair share of matches at Turf Moor over the past couple of seasons. My experience - sorry to say - is that generally their fans are quicker to get behind their team, and slower to sigh, moan and grumble when things aren't going their way. Perhaps nerves just got the better of them today.

Only Burnley and Brighton have been better than us since the turn of the year. As expected with so many new players to bed in, it took us a while to find our feet, but we've picked up more points per game in 2016 than 'Boro, Hull and Derby.

Can work both ways? Losing might make them even more determined to get promoted.

Massive lottery. I'm going in with a don't care attitude, promotion is a bonus. We have a three year plan and are two years ahead of schedule if we go up. Pressure off us, lets see what happens.
