Police cordon

Recommended Posts

Hillsborough is one of the most chilled out grounds to watch football , very rarely any bother. Syp really are a disgrace and a complete farce . Not selling tickets in the leppings la e end , fire hazard in the north stand, who actually comes up with this guff? Between them and the safety advisory muppets , it's like a competition who can be the biggest joke and who can get the most wrong

Can anybody recall football holiganism at s6, seriosly?

Oh, yeah, I can. You must be a lot younger than me!

A long time ago. Not often, but sometimes.

And I don't mean a few drunk geordies piiissing on the terraces.

Ridiculous by syp

Football has moved on since then, but they are still sh*tting themselves about something happening and the subsequent bad press that would follow

All the while the club stands to lose money and fans fail to get tickets

Stupid

The fold out thingies which they pull out at the stain? So we don't have to mix with the vermin.

Yes to hooliganism - more outside the ground back in the day. The threat of it more but occasional moments.

The days when they marched the away fans from Wadsley Bridge station past all the pubs with the boards on the windows

But there was at least 8 police vans as I got to the ground. But those criticising the authorities after what has gone on this week really perhaps don't understand the significance if something untoward had happened

Its ok criticising after there's been no problems but the potential for it was there. Very important match for both clubs and having relatives in South Wales I can tell you Cardiff fans are equivalent to Leeds fans up here. The loss of capacity due to segregation needs addressing, but given SYP's reputation I think thats got to come via structural changes of the stadium. I love the ground but lets face it, it isn't that different from 30 years ago. Everything about SWFC has stood still for so long, but at last, long last WE'RE SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY AND WE'RE ON OUR WAY BACK !!

I'm sure everything you say is spot on, but I do find this segregation thing very strange. When you go to one of these modern bowl type grounds the away fans are quite often separated from the home fans by no more than a line of stewards. TBF the number of matches where we could fill the ground like yesterday are quite minimal, but I'm sure DC would have wanted the extra revenue.

SYP keep getting a lot of stick and I'm certainly not here to defend them.

However, we spoke to a few before the game as they were in the queue for the toilet in the Leppings Lane garage and these had all been drafted in from Middlesbrough.

Either this is common practice, SYP'S resources are stretched or they cannot be trusted to police games by themselves?

Rotherham a few year back early 2000s I think when hooligans used to sit in south. Charged across to lep.

Still think that's why that end of south is normally shut off.

It looked like it was all set up for Cardiff bringing about 3 thousand. You would have thought this day n age the intelligence would have indicated that only a thousand would be coming and some of the police could have been stood down.

Spoke to a cop from Chesterfield last night who was also drafted in, said their were cops from Derbyshire and Cumbria working the game. How much would that have cost? Cardiff brought 1100, and it sounds like the plan was to man mark them with a cop each.
