Holmowl
My eyes tell me it doesn't work. The stats scream out that it doesn't. Fernando's goals:- 7 from left midfield 4 up front with Joao 2 up front with Nuhiu 1 with Joao and Nuhiu 1 with Hooper and Joao NOT ONE GOAL ALONGSIDE HOOPER AS TWIN STRIKERS Hooper's goals:- 5 with Nuhiu 4 with Fernando (but only one in the past nine matches together, away to Forest) 2 with Joao Add to this, we sometimes sacrifice Bannan out of easily his best position by pushing him wide left, to accommodate Fernando going up top. I really don't get why we persist in this duo up front. It is wasting Fernando, and not getting the best out of Hooper or Bannan. And that is our three best attacking players. Even more so, when McGeady plays, love him or hate him a big part of his game is twisting his fullback around and getting crosses over. Recently our crosses have had no-one anywhere near them. Its hardly surprising as neither Hooper nor Fernando are going to win many headers.
Ian Hess Sports
We get it already, you like nuhiu and think he should start. How many ways, can you invent, to tell us this.

I think theres a strong case for Nuhiu/Hooper. I think theres a strong case for Joao/Hooper. Its the Fernando/Hooper one I don't get.
StudentOwl
Assuming that we persist with the pseudo 4-4-2 we play, with any luck in summer we can get someone in that can partner Hooper that's a bit more effective than both Joao and Nuhiu. Simon Terodde or Gianluca Lapadula ideally if we dip into the foreign market. Needs to be something of a mobile target man that makes assists and plays for the team regardless. Forestieri isn't an out-and-out winger when he plays wide left, but he's definitely not a suitable Partner for Hooper as things stand... he's better off a bit deeper and standing off of him and running at defences. Ideally we'd go 4-3-3 with Fessi on left and then a new player on the right with Hooper on his own, but he doesn't seem to have the attributes required to play the lone striker. I trust Carlos to see us good, but we'll definitely need a striker/dynamic forward player in summer (assuming we stay in the Champ)... and we'll need at least two if we get promoted
richowl
We get it already, you like nuhiu and think he should start. How many ways, can you invent, to tell us this. FF best position is LM. This leaves Joao/Nuhiu to start with Hooper. Give it a rest with your boring anti Nuhiu Agenda.
Lee A
FF up front is stupid, almost as stupid as Bannan on the left Get them in their proper positions and let's start smashing teams to bits again

oldishowl
I think we all agree Carlos is a good coach and we have loads of experts on here So, if it is so obvious, why does he do it, why does he play FF and Hooper up front? He must have reasons, what are they?

He must have reasons, what are they? I'm definitely no expert but there's a chance FF wouldn't be as good in the second half if he had to chase up and down the wing for 90 minutes. Carlos seems to like upping the tempo in the second and FF's energy plays a key role in this.

Holmowl
So we should play joao and hooper with forestieri out wide? Tough call. Starting Joao/Hooper gives us the half time regular fallback of Nuhiu/Hooper. Worked many times. Starting Nuhiu/Hooper seems the better pairing, and gives us the tempo we often lack from the off, but Hooper/Joao as second half Plan B is a less successful change. I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. As long as our three most effective attacking players, Fernando, Bannan and Hooper play the next 360 minutes (day off v Wolves) in their best positions we have maximised our chances of success. I can even see the last 20 minutes of Saturday, or the semi, or the final, if we are chasing the game in need of a goal, its Fernando and Joao wide, with Hooper and Nuhiu in the centre.
