TK-Owl
Morning all Taking my niece to her first game next week and the club were nice enough to let me move my season ticket to the family area in the grandstand because of buy additional tickets, but the reason we are doing this is that as much as she's excited to be going to the football to see Sheffield Wednesday with her uncle, I dont know what her attention span or enthusiasm will be like for the actual game when there. Just wondering what sort of stuff is still up there for the little ones if they are struggling to stay fully invested in the game. The grandstand is the only bit of the ground I've never sat in and other than the epic stair climb I dont know whats there facility wise. Anyone take kids of 3 - 4 years old and if so how do they find the game, atmosphere & stuff to do etc Cheers in advance!
GMOwl72
Don't expect too much but at least the club offer the young ones something. Taken my lad in their a few times. It's mainly face painting, a computer console, table tennis on a normal table and colouring activities. Ozzie also makes an appearance at some point. Holmowl
I take my kids. The play area has all of the above and Twister. It could be improved but it is still enjoyed by my boys. There is FIFA on one console and Wii sports or similar on the other. The young guys who manage it are great. They ensure everyone gets a fair turn, and will even play if necessary. We turn up early so the boys can eat a hotdog and cardboard chips when it is still very quiet. They then go and play for a while, and return for more playing at half time. It does add to the enjoyment of their day.

Ronnie Starling
The Grandstand is great for kids as they have an area where they can do things before the game and they usually have some players in the area an hour or so before kick off. The leg room is the nest in the ground and regardless of what others say there is an atmosphere up there. I mean lets be honest the so called fantastic atmosphere on the Kop and North stand is more often than not non existent. You can safely take your niece up there and not worry about some drunk idiot effing and jeffing all game. Hope she enjoys the game and wants to come back again soon. Holmowl
Ronnie's point is good. Very little bad language, even against Rotherham! My language and anger used to be fiarly X rated years ago, but now the kids are there it certainly allows you not to take things too seriously. You get a great view of Tango from there, which entertains my kids for a few minutes each match.
TK-Owl
The cleaner language is one of the reasons for taking her up there, along side the other little bits like good toilets and something for her to do before and at half time. Got us seats near the back so we can sit a bit on our own and see what she reckons to it. She's very excited by the idea that she's going, but being there for 3 hours might produce a different attitude
TK-Owl
And in honesty my language isnt the best when I'm on the Kop so itll be nice for me to calm down a bit too!

You will have a good time and tell her not to listen to any swearing. Been there, done it. Pity the buggers grow up
Woodseats Owl
I used to take Woodseats Owl junior up in the Grandstand. Got to be honest the language was appalling I was very disappointed. Anyway I had a word and he promised me he wouldn't swear like that again.

O22IE_OWL
Barney and myself are usually up in the Grandstand around 2pm on Saturdays, usually around for 10 - 15 minutes. Hopefully see you on Saturday Cheers Ozzie
ViolaOwls
Should be kids facilities like area for toilets for families only so they don't have to put up with grown men urinating all over the seats in the name of WAWAW, when it suits.

Anyway I had a word and he promised me he wouldn't swear like that again. When my lad was 4 I took him to Millmoor to see John Sheridan playing for Oldham against them (more for me tbh) As it turned out he didnt play that day - but we sat in the family stand and watched anyway. Halfway thru the first half Dan stood up and shouted "The referees a w*ank*r"... to which I made him sit down and started explaining that was a naughty song With lots of shocked Rotherham parents looking around at me he said loudly "But we sing it all the time at Sheffield Wednesday"... We didnt go again
SheffieldGraduate
Take lots of sweets and things to entertain her. Maddogbob
Taken my little boy twice. I make sure I've got some sweets and a programme. Which seems to keep him going for most of the game. Only problem I found is he didn't like the noise when we score. Think it came as a bit of a shock first time. So that might be worth looking out for. Bearwood Owl1
Been taking my lad, who's now 7, up in the grandstand since he was just over 4. He loves football anyway, which helps, but the grandstand has always been a great all round experience. My advice would be to buy a seat somewhere near the end of a row for easy access to the toilets. It also seems to have got a little busier this season, so get there early for a good go on the games and whatnot, and if you want some cardboard, overpriced food, either get it before the game, or leave on 39 minutes before the queues.
