joelswfc
Good article written from the Cardiff viewpoint on the run-in. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-face-defining-week-11102250
Guest _Ibbo_
Why can't the sheffield star do really well written and interesting articles such as the above ?
Inspector Lestrade
To be fair to The Star online, its much improved this season, everyday there is new coverage and on Thursdays they go to town, with some very good articles.

I agree. Although they do not do many quality articles, there are a lot of articles covering a lot of different things all the time. A couple of years ago they would wait for something official from the club and then comment on that. It has improved.

GMOwl72
This is a comparison that we don't really want. We need to be focused on overtaking Derby and not looking over our shoulders at Cardiff, Ipswich etc. A win for Cardiff v Derby is a welcome result for us - we just need to make sure that if the does happen we capitalise by beating Huddersfield. Guest wilyfox
Of course, Cardiff can still apply pressure, but I regard Ipswich as more of a threat. They have the coach and players to contend again, whilst Cardiff have probably left themselves short up top. Had they kept hold of Jones and Mason, or managed to conclude a deal for Tony Watt, then I'd be more concerned about them. But most of their goals come from midfield, and I'm not convinced that'll be enough.

Agreed. I think the top 6 are the best teams in the league and our focus has to be on catching Derby and Hull - I think if we overtook both, we would be at home in the first play-off leg? - and that has to be our aim. Understandable from a Cardiff point of view though - they are looking at us, not Ipswich or Birmingham.

Then at least we know what we have to do on home soil.
oh_weds_we_love_you
Think I would prefer to be away the first play off leg. Then at least we know what we have to do on home soil. Given our home form and recent away resilience at Brighton and Hull, I'd prefer being at home first. Taking a first leg lead (highly possible with our home record), I would be confident we would at least hold that lead in the second leg. That said, our games against the top 5 have been very close and we haven't managed to beat them yet (plenty of draws though!).

In which case you need to finish 5 or 6, as I'm pretty sure the lower team plays at home first.

darklord
still think we will finish outside the playoffs. Based purely on supporting sheff wed and not being able to get my head around us having a chance to be sucessful again!

I had it in my mind that we finished 6th in League One (2004/05) when we actually finished 5th, and we won the first leg against Brentford 2-1 at their place and then 1-0 at Hillsborough when in fact it was the other way around. Tawny Owl
A win for Cardiff v Derby is a welcome result for us I can't say I agree with this. I suppose it depends on how confident you feel. For me it's all about getting into the playoffs, putting distance between us and Cardiff / Ipswich / Birmingham is more important than catching Derby. If we trip up at Huddersfield will you still be happy with Cardiff beating Derby?

Overall at this stage that's the best outcome. The key point is that whatever happens, at least one of those teams has to drop points. We must just concentrate on ourselves and keep winning. stowyowl
"In their best form, Sheffield Wednesday could easily land 14 points from those last eight games. That means Cardiff will have to secure at least 17 from there's to overtake them." If we get 14 points think Cardiff will need 18 and Ipswich 19 to finish above us. I can't see either improving their goal difference enough (8 and 2 respectively) to get ahead of our 20. As others have said, we want to be looking at catching Derby rather than looking behind us. Sova
Looking at Hull's fixtures compared to ours, unless they get complacent or really lose their confidence I can't see us catching them. We might have a chance with Derby, but even then it'll be tough if we lose at their place.
oldishowl
We need to do what Carlos says he is doing. Concentrate on winning the next game. If the other teams and results help us then fine but if we don't pick up the points ourselves then we won't make it. Just look at united , other results have given them every chance but they have not won enough games. We will need to be at our best to get anything on saturday
