simpark
Own up who submitted this to BBC Sport discussion about worst PL managers James: Must be Trevor Francis at Sheffield Wednesday - spent millions on average players on long contracts. Never managed since. Bloke who took us to 3rd, 7th, 7th and 13th + two cup finals. Yeah he was terrible

Holmowl
Bloke who took us to 3rd, 7th, 7th and 13th + two cup finals. Yeah he was terrible Heart breaking to read those positions, and we got rid of him. A lesson to all footie fans about being careful what you wish for. Loads of similar cases. Alan Curbishly is the most obvious one I can recall. Dogs abuse from fans about "not pushing on" and look at them since. Imagine us now, sacking a manager that got us 13th in the Prem. Mind blowing. oh_weds_we_love_you
Not guilty, and he's not the worst manager in our history, but in my opinion, he did do a rather poor job after inheriting what Big Ron had built and the finances thrown at the team during that period of our history. David Pleat and then Danny Wilson did the real damage!
matthefish2002
Never managed again!?!?!?!? Was manager at Birmingham for 5 season where they got to play offs a couple of times and also League Cup Final (Lost on Pens to Liverpool). Was hardly Alex Ferguson but hardly a disaster for Birmingham. Also had about a season at Palace as well afterwards. When at Wednesday brought in Waddle and Des Walker who would be both in my all time Wednesday XI. Think Francis at Wednesday was a bit of a nearly man but we have had better and worse managers IMO but to name him as worst manager in PL history is laughable. OwlofOliveGrove
Pfft. He chose Francis when there are managers with 7% win records on the list. Mental. Remi Garde is probably in with a shout right now.

David Pleat and then Danny Wilson did the real damage! Agree about Pleat and Wilson. Think Richards tightened the purse strings during Francis reign and we went from signing Waddle and Walker to Atherton, Nolan and Pearce and the decline started. OasisOwl72
Pre Cup Finals TF he was one of the best, post Cup Finals not so great at all but by no means the worst. That prize easily goes to Danny Wilson. Some of the best times watching Wednesday he was at the helm and bought the best player I have ever seen to the club in Waddle. Tinkering Ron’s’ team he was great but when he decided to wrongly bludgeon it and bring in the likes of Nolan, Coleman, Taylor et al and pay silly money for Sinton and have fall outs with club legends like Palmer, Bright and Nilsson etc it was the beginning of the end. His record stands up if you just look on paper but the team and the club at the time were on a really crest of wave and with Trev in charge over the four years I feel we missed a trick and we didn’t kick on. I’ll never be convinced he made the most of what he had available to him and how he left the club compared to what it was like when he took over tells you more of the story. I also felt he should have been sacked 1 year/6 months earlier. The worst though? No.
mcmigo
It's interesting that people are saying this Leicester story would be the greatest football story since cloughs forest were promoted and then won the league the next season. Well Francis very nearly did that. To take a side that only just scraped promotion and finished 3rd in the second division, to nearly winning the league the following year, was brilliant management. horny owl
Francis wasn't as bad as Wilson, Pleat or Eustace But he was still a bad manager IMO We could have been genuine contenders with a better manager at the helm after Big Ron left.

Ash-Williams
We were genuine contenders!! First season finished 3rd after nearly winning the league, Two cup finals in 93. Played in Europe and brought in players like Waddle & Bright plus Englands best keeper at the time. If that is failure Christ knows what the last 15 years have been
