Something that annoy me in football (and probably cost us the other night)

Recommended Posts

Players who try and pinch an inch!

With free kicks or throw ins it happens a lot and you get away with it and can steal several foot at times but when it comes to corners and penalties it goes on the spot or in the corner marked area so why do players try putting it out of this area by about a centimetre or in front of the penalty spot?

Is this tiniest of measurements really going to make a difference?

Big Dave when mentally preparing for his penalty Tuesday night was made to move the ball back on the spot by the ref because he'd obviously tried pinching an inch

It infuriates me how the ref and linesmen usually let them get away with it. It's a joke where players are allowed to put the ball for a corner

The rule that states all the ball must be over the line to be out i assume also applies to the quadrant for corners, so that as long as some part of the ball is overhanging the line it is technically inside. It often makes it look like it's out and some players pinch a bit more. Can't really see that they gain any advantage and it just winds people up.

Nail on head.

The two things that annoy me are specific to Wednesday. First , why does it take so long to throw the ball in? None of our players ever seem to be in a position for the throw to be taken quickly, the second is the number of times the GK , usually Westie, will come and catch a ball, moves quickly to the edge of he area in order to play the ball quickly, by throwing or kicking, only for him to have to check until our players saunter back upfield.

Saw Athe place the ball on the penalty spot twice, (after he'd grabbed ball from Hooper), only for it to roll off because of slightly raised area due to actual penalty spot marking on the grass. So he put it in front of mark goalside....cos then ref makes him move it.....defo unsettled his concentration, and he fluffs it. Same thing happened to a Wallace corner near South in second half.

Groundsman???

One thing that annoys me is foul throws.

A few seasons back almost every game we were committing foul throws it was so frustrating. Those were the dark days though hopefully we never go back

Verjiml was appallingly bad...almost kicked himself on the back of the head every throw....having said that I spoke to a ref a few weeks ago about how many fouls throws you see and he admitted that they don't really care...reckons they have enough to look for without foul throws being one of them

on the flip side to this, he does exactly the same when clearly, for example Wallace or Hooper are demanding ball for early runs and then checks giving time for defenders to cover!

glad its not just me

several times a game Westwood holds on to the ball far too long when players are running into space wanting the ball

Pet hate of mine - Taking goal kicks from the opposite side of the box to where the ball went out. The keeper (and they all do it) strolls across the width of the goal wasting time - lets face it if any keeper keeps a clean sheet then he's happy so time wasting is in his interest. This rule needs reverting to what it was - goal kick from the side where the ball went out - and a time limit set from when the keeper has possession of the ball.

Another moan, players picking the ball up to take a throw in then throwing it to a team mate to take after spending 30 seconds pretending to take the throw. The first outfield player who picks up the ball should have take it within a time limit. Fed up of spoilers in the game.

Think we so much money at stake that its hardly surprising players and managers try to bend the rules as much as possible. Stealing inches and yards at free kicks and throw ins is just another part of this.

If a ref made players take free kicks and throw ins where they should be taken from he would get grief from the crowd for slowing the game down.
