Transfer window management

Recommended Posts

When you compare our January business with that of Derby and Boro, I think we can see who managed it better.

Boro one win in four, Derby plummeting like a very heavy stone wearing a lead boot. Whereas we have added only McGeady who is challenging for a starting place in midfield where we needed extra quality competition, Boro and Derby have disrupted a winning team.

Our system of loan them in summer, secure them in January, has been genius. Still cant believe what we have paid for what we have got. Bit like swapping football cards or stickers "You give me Rhodes and I will give you Forestieri, Hooper and Bannan".

Got to hand it to our management. Truly great job.

I was only saying this the other day, we truely have done fantastic business and I firmly believe we have better value for money.

9 goals from Hooper, 11 from Fessi and other players scoring too. Thing is Hooper and FF will carry on scoring. Both of em for £3 million each! Absolute bargains!

Bannan on a free, Lee was a freebie a few years back and has come into his own. This team will get better too once the injured players get back upto speed.

Saw a couple of Norwich fans in New St on Saturday and thanked them for letting us have Hooper for nowt. Think i got on their nerves a bit by the time i'd finished.

I wonder if Carlos has some of Derren Browns black magic.

"Alex Neill, Alex Neill, look into my eyes, look into my eyes....Gary Hooper couldnt hit a cows ariss with a banjo"

& there's no burden of a massive transfer fee on their shoulders.

FF is easily worth 6m now

& Hooper easily 7m

In my opinion, as soon as they signed the owls contract, with performances they're putting in, value has easily shot up

It will be interesting to see who we recruit in the summer, if we don't get promoted - which is still a big ask, but a lot smaller than it was some months ago.

What areas are we lacking quality in depth? Attacking wide right and left maybe? Sougou isn't doing it for me as back up for Wallace and McGeady, who is only on loan of course. Wide left, we have Helan, Mattias and Pudil, but only Mattias is an attacking wide player. Helan and Pudil are more comfortable coming from deep. Forestieri can play wide left or right, more as an inside forward than out and out winger.

Central midfield, defence and for the first time in 15 years, attack, is well covered.

What are you thoughts?

I'd say you're more or less right there. Been great business from an actually financial asset standpoint.

I honestly cant see where we'd need to improve, as long as we hold on to what we've got and see some improvement in Jaoa, Matias etc.

CC, Loovrens, Lee, Lees and Semedo seem to have done an amazing job in integrating the new players into a tight group with a team spirit that is clearly evident. We just need to look at pride park to see what happens when you bring in the wrong sort and they cannot blend as a team. There's trouble down there that is not all to do with the ex-manager. Having said all that if we do need improvement in any area it would have to be a real class act to oust any of the first team at the moment, i know its a squad game but the time will come when the peripheral players want game time and become unhappy. Lets just hope we keep winning and the problem doesn't arrise.

We've come a long way in a very short space of time. You look at DC's first transfer window (Jan 2015) and compare it to the next two and it's quite clear that he is a fast learner. This past window had a touch of the Mandaric's for me. MM was never one for sanctioning massive changes in January (Jan 2011 apart) and this policy served us well in the main. MM used the emergency loan window heavily and in clear contrast DC hasn't which is just as well as from next season this option will no longer exist. The try before you buy policy is a clever one but we did do this under MM as well (Rob Jones, Michail Antonio, Jeremy Helan, Sam Hutchinson). I'm fascinated to see DC's transfer strategy should we get back to the prem as he'll have to spend more money and getting value for money will be much harder.

I'm very confident that our ability to spot overseas talent will be far higher than it has been in the past however - and, as we know, there isn't much value for money in British players.

Our track recird from overseas is not great. None have nailed down a starting place yet...Sougou, Lopez, Matis, Joao. One or more might, but overseas is very risky, especially if you need them to perform day one.

Compare that to the guys taken from British clubs....Bannan, FF, Hoops, Pudil, Hunt. wallace, Straight into first XI and undroppable.
