S36 OWL
I believe 76 points could well get us into the play offs , we currently have 46 ,so is another 30 points out of the question . ? That another 9 wins and 3 draws from the remaining 18 games . I think we are more than capable of acheiving that in my opinion with the players we have . From there its lottery time . BRADDO
Certainly achievable but expect us to have a dip at some point. Brum looking strong, Brighton winning again. It'll be tough
ohgoditsjames
We HAVE to improve our away form, not sure why we play differently, we don't play our own game when we're away, we seem to try and play a game to counter the other team rather than focussing on playing our own game like we do at home. Another thing I've noticed is when we're winning away, we try and hold on, rather than carrying on the onslaught, when we're at home when we winning, we usually try to remain aggressive and score. Swiss Toni
I reckon about 72-75 points should be enough to creep in.

Sitting back on a lead doesn't seem to work for us. Our strengths lie in our attacking play and we don't go for it enough when away

Our strengths lie in our attacking play and we don't go for it enough when away It's a frustrating tactic because our players and play style are essentially about dominating midfield, asserting our presence and making a team have no space, these three things are what we don't ever seem to do away from home. At the Leeds game we had a similar problem, during the second half, Leeds right side was open for most of the game and we didn't take advantage of it once, was very irritating. Fast Forward
75 points should secure a 6th place finish. In the last 10 seasons only once has 75 points not been enough (last season when Ipswich finished 6th with 78 points.) The lowest total for the team finishing 6th in the last 10 seasons was 68 Points in 2012/13. The average points total for 6th place over the last 10 years is 73.2 points. So 29 points required from our remaining 18 games; that is 1.61 points per game, compared with 1.64 points per game achieved to date. 1867Heaven
We need more than the team that finished 7th and hopefully more than the team that finishes 6th.
Leaping Lannys Perm
Think it will take an especially high total. Look how long it took us to make up a two point gap after that poor run in Late November/early December. Didn't it take 6 wins in 7 just to make up 2 points? Warringtonowl
Could be record highs for playoffs and record lows for relagation. Top teams keep winning/drawing and bottom teams keep losing/drawing. Dont know what the records are tbh but I think it might take 80 points to get in. darra
One more point than the team finishing 7th or a better goal difference than them should do it. What do I win ?
bradowl
Might sound daft but finishing 6th could be better than finishing 5th. Playing team that's finished 3rd and might have missed out on automatic on final day is probably better than playing team that's finished in 4th who could have rested players on final day of season knowing they're already in play offs but can't make automatic. HirstWhoScoredIt
Might sound daft but finishing 6th could be better than finishing 5th. Playing team that's finished 3rd and might have missed out on automatic on final day is probably better than playing team that's finished in 4th who could have rested players on final day of season knowing they're already in play offs but can't make automatic. - 72 points is often seen as the total that gets you in the play offs. Wednesday are on target for this with 36 points at the halfway stage. - however, in 4 of the last 10 seasons a Championship team has achieved this total and not got in the play offs. - in 6 of the last 10 seasons the team finishing 6th has had more than 72 points - 75 points actually appears to be the magic total. - Last season was the only year (in the last 10) when a team has achieved 75 points or more and not got in the play offs (Wolves 78). It was also the only season when the team in 6th had more than 75 points (Ipswich 78). - Therefore get 75 points and you're almost certainly in. 79 practically guarantees it. - it is often perceived that the team coming third rarely wins the play offs and that they are usually won by a team that sneaks in. In actual fact, the team coming third has triumphed in six of the last ten Championship seasons. The team coming 4th has won once, 5th twice and 6th once. - the lowest total a team has been automatically promoted with is 79 (Hull in 2013 and Stoke in 2008) - the highest amount of points achieved by a team finishing third and missing out on automatic is 86 (Norwich in 2015 and West Ham in 2012). - the highest total achieved by a team finishing 2nd is 93 by Burnley in 2014. F. Spiksley
Current form guide makes interesting reading. Definitely think Birmingham have a chance of top 6. Burnley and Hull are strong but vulnerable. Derby and Brighton need to worry. Boro will be top 6 no doubt, not so likely one of the auto spots they have a few 'iffy' fixtures in Feb IMHO. Ipswich and the out-lyers for me are Cardiff and Brentord, are in with a shout of playoffs at this stage too. We are sitting nicely for putting in a shift and cranking it up a notch for the final third of the season. I believe we have every chance (certainly top 6) as I can see a lot of chopping and changing happening during Feb. The current top 10 will be very different come Sat 5th March. If we are going to be serious about at least a play off push then we need to be sitting with 59/60points after the game against Rovrum Too early to have a really good guess at a top 6 points tally for me. But I'd say it would be 74pts this year for 6th place. Edited January 24, 2016 by F. Spiksley
