Personally, in our situation, I would never spend more than £5 million on a player who hasn't played in England. I was staggered when I saw Brighton had bid that much for him. It's probably just paper talk, remember people being shocked that we offered a huge fee for McCormack, and were said to be plotting a mammoth bid for Rhodes. What could work in our favour is if 'boro, Derby, Hull etc sign 4 or 5 players that upset the system like Ince and Bent did for Derby last season. That is the one mistake I don't want us to make. He already spent last January when he didn't own us yet. Then this summer we spent upwards of £8M... suggests to me there's a pot of money with 'January' written on it. Not that we need to spend much this Jan. I'd be happy to keep the squad together and then look at what really needs to be done in the summer for an assault on the top 2. Get some of the deadwood out also - Mcgugan, Bus, Lachman, Price We already have Sasso, Turner, Hunt, Pudil, López and Hooper on loan, so we'd need to make some of these permanent if we're not going to have several loan players not even making the match day squad.
