Wath-owl
I don't really understand how the retractable seating is going to work. Is it just going to be the lower tier that gets moved closer to the pitch, leaving a massive gap to the upper tier? I can imagine the atmosphere being terrible for football matches. Is it just going to be the lower tier that gets moved closer to the pitch, leaving a massive gap to the upper tier? I can imagine the atmosphere being terrible for football matches. There are two grounds in Australia with retractable seating. ANZ Stadium is configured to be rectangular so the seats are moved inwards and reduces capacity when in oval configuration. Etihad Stadium is configured to be circular and when changing to rectangular the whole lower tiers are moved out over the ground. This also means that there are seats that can't be used as the tier restricts the view. On my phone so can't post pictures but search Etihad Retractable Seating and it will show you. Looks horrible. Yep will leave a big gap to top tiers As Ralph said couple stadiums over here do it This is what Etihad looks like with and without the retractable seats

mattitheowl
That's not so bad. Some of the very back seats will be a long way off but you get that at all the big stadiums anyway. Just not bothered...

FlyingOwl
Had my doubts over West Ham moving into the Olympic Stadium but having watched this I've changed my mind. Will be fantastic for them & could really help them become one of the bigger teams in this country again.

Wath-owl
So, going by this photo taken a few weeks back they have just had a Desso pitch installed, yet according to Karren Brady in that video they're going to rip it up after the Rugby WC and install a new Desso pitch. Brilliant.
