Used to think Carlton Palmer was singling out Maghoma unfairly (on away commentaries) but I'm not so sure now? Last weekend it even seemed Westwood was telling him to 'shake a leg' as he was ambling out of our penalty area. Westwood wanting him bombing up left for a quick goal kick & outlet. Whichever way you look at it most of our players seemed to have upped their game since competition for places has been brought in. Where is the competition for the wings at the minute? We chip the ball in from the middle rather than out wide continually. It's our plan A, B & C in some games, and sooo easy to defend against. As Nigel says, when we do get into those areas, it tends to be passed backwards and inside. Get the ball out wide and whip it in so it can actually be attacked. Lofting it up so it's dropping to the forwards gives them no chance. Even if we did have someone that was actually good in the air. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But invariably it reaches someone on the edge of the box, who then has to control it with their head or chest, before trying to turn or play a pass. A backwards pass. I counted countless crosses into the box in the second half last night, we attacked them a hell of a lot down the wings and actually started to put balls in through the wings and not chips through the middle. I thought second half attacking wise we were a lot better than usual, we just fell asleep for 15 minutes in the first half that cost us the game. McGugan, Magohma, Palmer, Lees, Helan, Hutchinson all put 2/3 crosses into that box in the second half. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Once your in their box running at a man, three things can happen. 1. you beat your man 2. you win a penalty 3. defender wins ball 2/3 of those scenario's are positive for us. The number of times we get it in a good position to cross and then play it back inside infuriates me. instead of having one man get into a crossing position out wide and getting the ball into the danger area as often as possible... or, having one good enough to skin his opponent and then get a better quality ball in... we f*** and faff about with it, this generally requires us to get more men out wide to eventually outnumber the opposition which will allow the cross to be made... by this time they've had all the time in the world to get into position to defend the cross... and often we've used so many men to work the move out wide there's little left in the box to hit... if yer gonna get balls into the box from wide positions, to men whose strength isn't winning aerial balls, THEN GET IT IN EARLY FFS... In this thread ive read the defence launch it straight in, we cross it too early or we mess about with it in midfield. 1 last night all Lees and Dielna did was hoof it until about 88th minute when they decided that passing it to Helan or Palmer was a better option. 2. We do hang on to it in midfield but why? There is a lack of running. Nuhiu and Keane knew what was coming over so didnt run in to space. Was blatantly obvious that last nights tactics were hit nuhiu and keane be there for the flick on as on countless times there was space to run in behind but nuhiu dropped off for a long ball and keane was left standing in behind him. Only McGugan ran from midfield in to advanced positions. Although maguires effort and desire impressed me kast night. Keeping the ball isnt hanging on to it, you are supposed to shift it quick but we arent quick enough as we are too static at times going forward. This again is down to tactics. Players knew the long ball was coming. 3. When we do put a cross in nobody gambles. 2 occasions last night maguire crossed to perfect crosses, 1st from left everyone stood still second May flicked on at near post while Nuhiu and Keane stood and watched Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
