THE PITCH, getting the best results out of it...

Recommended Posts

the pitch is a sh*thole...

in the kickabout before we ripped fack out of it in 2 places with a short passing/moving game in 2 smallish squares...

then in the game, we continue this stupid (tippy, tappy) short passing game (on a bad surface) getting shut down, tackled, and constantly caught in possession...

if yer barcelona (or the like), and playing on a true surface, then you're in with a chance...

if you're a championship player, and playing on a shithole of a pitch, then play a lil' longer...

and stop selling each other short...

Love it how the fans now suggest hoofball

We had 5+ years of hoofball before Gray and everyone moaned no end

But when you play on a pitch that would be an embarrassment to sunday league you have no choice.

i'm not suggesting hoofball...

but on that surface, stop playing 5 and 10 yard balls that need instant control cos' a guy has a man on...

20+ yards on a pass should be enough to take out any guys around you...

if ball control on it is difficult, then look to knock a first time ball...

having watched where some of our more calculated efforts went today, first time might be an improvement...

Formation's got to be 4 3 3 at home, not all that pretty but effective on that pitch and we'll see a lot more goal mouth action.

Getting pitch sorted properly is a must come summer unless we want to try and win promotion Wilko way which is a bit out of date now days.

McGugan didn't seem to have too many problems with the pitch.

cardiff as a unit didn't, BUT we did...

i remember when mourinho had stamford bridge dug up for the visit of barca...

and much to his dismay barca still managed to play on it...

but it appears our players in general may not be as skilled as barca's...

and need a better surface, OR to have our approach adapted to remove this short passing game that clearly failed in the first 30 mins yesterday...

That would work, if only we didn't HOOF it 2 feet over his head. So essentially we need to get better at HOOFing it.

I think we're better off playing Nuhiu as long as the pitch is like that.

Just got to hoof it below shoulder height so he can do something with it.

I think it makes it harder to run with the ball, rather than short passing. Helan amd Virmijl fell victims to it a couple of times. Belting down the flanks and the ball bobbled as they crossed it and ended up in row Z on the kop.

It's going to be a thorn in our arse until the weather picks up.

both running and passing need good control...

thinking further on the matter maybe it needs playing on like an old icy pitch...

play into space, turning your opponent and run onto it...

you never actually totally control it, like the early all weather surfaces used to be...

you never saw qpr fancying about on that sh*thole of theirs...

they just played the way they were facing, and played the simple ball early, turning the defender...

Good players won't.

But then again neither do hundreds of thousands of 15 year old kids playing on sh!thole pitches up and down the country every week, somehow still managing to put crosses into the box

No excuse for the likes of Helan I'm afraid, nothing to do with the pitch that they can't cross or control the ball because it happens when the pitch is brand new aswell, just not good enough
