james o connor
lets keep megson where he has been for the last three years, unemployed. we had a great team in league one under him but by xmas he had been worked out. score one and then put eleven men behind the ball and hope the opposition don't equalize . we lost to Exeter chesterfield Walsall etc because one tactic megson didn't have an answer when the other team scored. for all those that love him so much id love to ask why the much maligned dave jones did a better job with megsons squad? and why has no team touched him since we rightly let him go? I know out fans obsess about medicore 'cult heroes' jj llera reda etc etc but im at a total loss to see why megson is so loved on here Edited November 9, 2014 by james o connor
33
Set pieces under Meggo were a joy to beholder. Since the Ginger One left they have become as threatening as a baby's dribble when teething.
Mr Farrell
Set pieces under Meggo were a joy to beholder. horny owl
I'd even consider betting Laws back, never mind megson. Grays days are numbered that's for sure.
gurujuan
Megson blew his chance to be a hero, and in all honesty, I can't see him ever getting another managerial appointment

And this after months having to make do when Marshall left hence JOC on the wing. We were still in third place and with Antonio in the team beat the pigs who were second. We wouldn't play a better team for the rest of the season. Furthermore when Dj came in he was also able to bring in Treacy another championship quality player who like Anronio was just too good for league one. Corneliusreeve
he did not "sort us out" quickly like crosby said did he? I am dealng in facts not re-writing anything: 2 wins in his last 10 games - that's worthy of the sack. you remember different? please detail. How many wins have we had in the last ten game? gurujuan
How many wins have we had in the last ten game? Not quite the same, Megson had a top three budget, Gray has a bottom three budget
York_Owl
Those ten games were also including fa cup games against Blackpool who were in the league above. In league games it was four wins from ten including beating the team one place above us.
Cersei
Sorry guys but some of you have romanticised this. We were a threat from set pieces, but that is all we were a threat from! We were all moaning about goals from open play. We were good at home, but we were awful away, and it was only a good home record because we played percentage football and ground out 1-0s against pub teams, it wasn't any different than now entertainment wise. Grays win % is just a few points under Megsons, in the league above with no financial backing. Megson, FFS

Cersei
Why has not one club even sniffed around him?
York_Owl
It's not romanticising. He turned things around from when Irvine was in charge and we were in third place when he was sacked. He signed players like Batth, Semedo, Marshall and Antonio. Winning your home games and drawing away is a formula for promotion.
vulva
Managing Wednesday was Megsons dream job, but his stubbornness got in the way. He probably won't admit it, but he is gutted it didn't work out.

Cersei
Please explain why Megson only managed a very small aditional points per game ratio with a top 3 budget in L1 as Gray has in the Chamlionship with a bottom 6 budget? Gray has kept us a great leap in fron of our wage budget standing, Megson only just had us where it should be. Statistically Gray would have had us in 1st all season. York_Owl
I actually admire Megson for that. Most people put their own jobs first and try and make the best of the hand they're dealt with even if they know it's not the right thing to do. Megson put the clubs interests before his own. 33
Would rather score at home from set pieces only than not at all. Oh those heady days of expecting a goal from every free kick, corner and even throw in. It was like the Nineties. Meggo and Stu dream team is what is needed...! Jowl
What we're all craving is a game plan. The football wasn't always pretty - or effective - but everyone knew his job, 100% effort was a requirement And team spirit was essential Gray had that at the start of the season - if he can rediscover that formula the the football is better
vulva
If we are staring down the barrel of relegation come February, I can't think of anyone better qualified and suited to a red Adair job than Megson.
