Guest Ponty_Owl
George Ulyett the most famous of them all. Only played the once for the football team in an FA Cup match. Played for our Cricket team and Yorkshire on many occasions. Was in Englands first ever tour party of Australia. ( Goalkeeper) Great call! Can't really be confirmed though because there isn't the paperwork to be 100%. He was on the books for a couple of seasons, but only one record of him playing (vs Notts County) exists. Would be odd that such a great all rounder and top sportsman would be signed on as keeper for a couple of years and not make more than one appearance. Can anyone check this? Would love to know. Here is a nice site about him: http://www.chrishobbs.com/sheffield/georgeulyett.htm
RichSheffWeds
This thread got me thinking about a centre half we signed towards the end of our time in the Premiership. Hungarian I think, cost us about £1m from memory. Hardly played if at all. What was his name?
Guest Ponty_Owl
Jim Holton!!! Think we signed him and he broke his leg in his first appearance in a pre season friendly. So he never made a competitive start? Now that's class. Didn't he break his leg playing against us for Man U too?

marconi
Didn't he score in the first minute of his debut at Norwich? No, he nearly did. Brunt scored our winner that day. We also had Partridge and Eagles playing for us too.

Ian
David Johnson? The tall blonde lad away at villa in 92? He played more than 1......way way more than he should have done......he's right up there in the Olsen, Bothroyd, Nuhiu class
Ian
Not 100% sure on these but didn't play very often. Ian Hesford Tony Simmons A centre half called Carr, scored a own goal and I think we conceded 5 or 6. Can't remember his name but we had a center half who played at Leicester when we lost 6-1 in mid 80s. Hesford never played......despite being the England U21 keeper when we signed him Simmons didn't either......sold him to QPR for about £50k before he'd ever played for us after scoring 40 odd for the reserves the previous season
Donald Dinho
Maurice Ross cant have made many appearances before being shipped out. Think the 'Flying Binman' Colin Walker only made 1 League appearance - scored a hat trick at Stockport (at Maine Road) in the League Cup.
