The real solution to our problem ...

Almost regardless of who our new manager is , once appointed, the real solution to  our problem is investment in two or three quality players - investment which Milan promised at the end of last season to 'move us forward' -  investment which never took place . Until it actually happens, this club will continue to move backwards - shored up ( often ineffectually ) with occasional loan players.

 

Sheffield Wednesday at the moment is one of the saddest, most depressing places to visit - and this is thanks to Milan and his approach over the last 18 months. An approach in which he professes to understand the problem whilst  actually doing little  to address it.  This detracts daily from the euphoria and  good will that abounded at the time of his take over.

 

I fear Milan is cutting his short-term losses, notwithstanding the fact that the long-term 'sale-ability' of the club is declining rapidly. Maybe someone in their late 70's can be excused for pursuing short-term savings ?  

 

The appointment ...or non-appointment...of a manager  is an important ... but 'side'...  issue which is deflecting our attention from the real problem.

 

Just my opinion, of course ... but if,  or when, we get a new manager , he is not supported financially ... it will make little difference who we appoint.

getting rid of DJ wasn't the real solution anyway - it contributed but it was never going to be the be all and end all. Whichever manager comes in now, if MM can get anyone to work with him, will, at least have a better chance of gathering some form of sympathy whilst he is at the club. DJ rode along with a lot of what MM was spouting - "we are going to go for it...etc." DJ was sucked in as much as most Wednesday fans by the precious almost Godlike words of MM. He reflected this to the fans and when things started to go wrong, he also jumped on the MM trail of simply not knowing what to do to rescue the situation.

 

Another manager, Holloway, Warnock, PDC, whoever it is will not get the funds that they realise the playing staff need. Would anyone take a position on under such circumstances? These are all professional people looking for work, they all know MM's reputation and how he operates - if we do, surely they do!! 

What else would tempt someone into the position.....? Money, right? But we ain't got any.....

 

Finance is the major problem at the club right now, it will be very interesting to see what position the club is in after the festive games and if there is a need for the Chairman to go looking for more borrowed money. If this happens, it will send very clear signals to many, especially on here that MM does have a master plan after all and they will not be happy with the predicament. If he can't borrow the money, what next? He has to trade his way out of trouble - goodbye Kirkland (and others)

 

I don't like to use those awful American cliches but this is surely the biggest footballing "catch 22" ever.
