Decent players, Poor System.

Recommended Posts

We were weak in midfield - McPhail improves it  - No disrespect to him, he's better than Prutton and Coke etc, but how many other championship sides would he really improve?

We were weak upfront - Fryatt improves it. - He does, because he's quality, but he's only as good as the chances we create, which with Helan, JJ, Antonio and the lack of central midfield, wont ever be enough.

We had little central defensive cover - Roger Johnson improves it  - good player, but the first 11 doesn't improve because we signed him, he just covers the other good defender we had.

It's the negative formation and tactics at the heart of the problem.

Tactically we have been found wanting on several occasions, cant argue that, sometimes to the point its been funny to watch,  but the squad simply is not good enough either, you mention another 2 or 3 players, but unfortunately I think thats what we will need.

Big problems.

We are caught between two systems. The physical bully boys effective football from under Megson, and the more passing focused game which Jones would probably like to introduce and play. We are carrying a mix of players from the former system whilst trying to introduce some new signings from Jones' attempt to achieve the latter.

The result is stuck somewhere in the middle, leaving us without any real system and any real identity as a team.

Jones has signed enough players to make 3 passing teams

Poor players, poor system for me, we have plenty of big and strong, athletic blokes, but not many footballers at all.

No direspect to the lad, he has his strengths and he's certainly useful, but if Michail Antonio really is the best player at a championship club, then that club has a very poor squad for the level they're playing at.

Agree.

Watching the Brighton/Watford game the other night was frightening how far ahead of us they both are. We may have drawn with Brighton this season but they're streets ahead. Decent footballers, wingers with less pace but know exactly how to beat a man, good movement uip front.

Where would Antonio fit into either of those teams? I'd guess as an impact sub.

We're a low level Championship squad with a low level Championship budget.

Antonio is the best of a bad bunch, but the reality is he's not that good.

The players are not world beaters...no disrespect cos ive seen a lot worse, and no doubt they could say theve seen better supporters...no argument

But..They are underperforming by a long way...its not a great team on paper, but its not relegation material, some of the individual performances have not been relegation material....The tactics however, the timid crap against Yeovil and Millwall, the 10 men behind the ball fookwhittery is not the players..its down to one man..thats Dave.

Wednesday fans don't expect to see a Lionel Messi or fookin' Gareth Bale week in week out, but they expect a committment to the shirt and a will to win, maybe some of the players have got it, but how do you utilise it, if you're a forward who's brought back to defend against 10 fookin' men cos they have a corner?

Its tactics not talent thats dragged us down here...its timidity not touch..its fear not  flair...Its down to Jones..
