owlZfan84 9,239 Posted April 22, 2013 Currently talking about his time with us on Talksport. Interesting listening. Reckon's that the team we had, full of internationals, led to problems with certain players and the current manager at the time, Trevor Francis. Speaks very highly of the fans, and say's we are MASSIVE.
bigrbuk 3,131 Posted April 22, 2013 Has he mentioned anything about his legs made of twigs or why he could only play 45 mins each game (towards the kop)?
Retfordowl74 84 Posted April 22, 2013 For me one of the most over rated and over hyped players we signed in the last 20 years. Qpr must have been laughing at us the day we paid 3 million I think and they signed Trevor Sinclair from Blackpool for 300 grand!!!
RolandWaddle 245 Posted April 22, 2013 There weren't many complaints when we signed him. He seemed like the final piece of the jigsaw. Waddle on one side, him an England International BTW on the other. Just never worked out.
Rogers 3,849 Posted April 22, 2013 Vastly overrated player at the time ; think we spent 2.7m on him and I remember a few good games; but many games when we lost. Newcastle 8 - 1 or 0 springs to mind.
wilyfox 16,687 Posted April 22, 2013 He was an expensive flopsy.
33 10,437 Posted April 22, 2013 Only player I have ever seen rip Roland Nilsson a new ar5ehole. Tore him to pieces at Loftus Road. Beat Arsenal (?) to his signature and was absolutely ecstatic...1 Big, big let down...!
matthefish2002 9,034 Posted April 22, 2013 Was start of highly rated players we signed that just did not work out. Was not worst ever Wednesday player but considering what we paid for him hard to see his time with us as anything other then a big let down.
owlZfan84 9,239 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Only player I have ever seen rip Roland Nilsson a new ar5ehole. Tore him to pieces at Loftus Road. Beat Arsenal (?) to his signature and was absolutely ecstatic...1 Big, big let down...! The reason the transfer came about was because he asked for a £1,000 a week pay rise at QPR but it was declined. Us and Arsenal put in the same offer and matched his wage demands, but he says that at the time he was refused permission to talk to Arsenal. So basically, he signed for us to spite those in charge at QPR. Edited April 22, 2013 by owlZfan84
33 10,437 Posted April 22, 2013 Said a lot for us at the time when we were signing players like him and Walker ahead of the likes of Arsenal...! Happy days...!
Distraught! 3,509 Posted April 22, 2013 Should have done all we could to get Les Ferdinand from QPR with him. Waddle and Sinton on the wings with Hirst and Ferdinand in the middle would have been interesting especially having Palmer and Sheridan in midfield as well. Orlando_Trustful 7,841 Posted April 22, 2013 I blame our whole decline on Andy Sinton.
RolandWaddle 245 Posted April 22, 2013 The thing is for me Matt. There are some players who you know will never be a success, Sinton definitely wasn't one of them. He ticked all the right boxes, for whatever reason it didn't work out. He had a bit of a slow start, the team didn't get off to a flyer and he had a couple of injuries. armchairfan 15 Posted April 22, 2013 Didn't we get him because Trevor Sinclair (at QPR too) was too expensive I may be wrong but i seem to remeber something along those lines
BRUCE LEE 4,896 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) I always thought Sinton looked like he had glass eyes. Edited April 22, 2013 by BRUCE LEE
dowls 213 Posted April 22, 2013 Wrong Sinclair was Sinton replacement at QPR- it was a massive signing at the time! I'd always thought we got him as we paid more than Arsenal as opposed permission who he could talk to etc
shandypants 8,060 Posted April 22, 2013 It didn't work out because we used to give Sinton the ball too deep and then ask him to beat two or three players before he put in the final ball. At QPR, the ball was put in front of Sinton to run onto and then he might only have to jink past a player at the by-line before putting in the final ball - that's how he was effective. Sinton was a winger with quite 'direct' football style and mentality but we used to try to play him in a similar style to how we played Waddle.
