Parachute payments

Recommended Posts

It's a farce, but not necessarily the complete death of clubs like ours. It's worth remembering that all 3 of the clubs who came down from the Premier League last year did so with enormous wage bills and/or carried on spending this season, and other than Bolton (who are only up there based on their form in the last third of the season) they've struggled. Blackburn spent £8m on a striker and handed out £60/£70k contracts to players like Leon Best and Nuno Gomes, yet still look in serious danger of relegation.

It doesn't help us but there are lots of examples of teams who have spent big for this division and not really got all that far with it.

The League chairmen have a meeting in June...All they have to do is inflate the membership cost of re-entry into the league or under FFP come to an agreement what should constitute turnover fpr the purposes of player purchases and wages.

And while they are at it they should set uniform admission costs...As each subsequent relegated side gets relegated they maintain their previous years Premiership admission prices...Come on Milan/Paul take this forward

Rewarding failure, one of the reasons why we'll never win the World cup again, too many players simply taking the money and doing nowt.

They may as well have just made the Premiership a closed shop...but that would be deemed "unfair"...so you give the clubs that sadly have to leave this "League of Gentlemen"  a good hand out and a better than most chance of trottin' back to the buffet next season...

Bolton Chairman...he tried his utmost, before his club nosedived to stop relegation and create a stagnant pool full  of sticklebacks  the bigger fish could nibble at while they fought the bigger battles.

Everyone can see its a fookin' charade, but there are so many folk making money hand over fist, no bugger wants to call it...it absolutely stinks...

Its a load of poo poo

I DO agree that they should get paracute payments to help with the cost of relegation, but im sorry they dont need 4 flipping years of them!

If they cant get rid of the top earners within 2 years then thats there fault, i think 2 years of parachute payments is sufficient.

If a club dropped out of the prem with a squad full of prem players on prem wages with no parachute payments they would go into administration pretty much straight away so huge is the gap between Prem and Champ in terms of income.

Having said that, the amount of money is ridiculous.

A better solution would be parachute payments together with a mandatory clause in all contracts, for all teams grom Norwich to Man City that wages drop by 50% on relegation - that way they wouldnt need so much money.

I don't see why they should at all. They got relegated - end of story.

Rewarding relegation like that, absolute joke. Part of me hopes the Premier League crash and burn one day soon.

^^^^

This.

The whole Premier League system is designed to prevent outsiders (of which we are one) from joining their elite club. The sooner the whole thing falls apart the better.
