Guest mrbluesky
For me DJ is the man to take us forward but this season his signings have fallen way short(grumble) but his tactics on the whole have been (decent/good), I`m not sure its all been down to finance as Mandy has to be fair backed him up on that side of things, My grumble from start of the season was to much to soon with players coming in and out he did`nt give some of them a fair crack, we had a decent start then slumped but a manager shows his abilities when things aren't quite going right being patient and eventually turning things round, My fingers are tightly crossed that we get out of this mess and start again but my worries are we dont have a great deal to build on from this season as we've been fighting relegation for the most of it which as we know clubs can become perennial struggle's Sooo whats your praise and grumbles from this season??. lanzaroteowl
Grumbles To many poor signings pre season Trying to fit said poor signings into the team at the expense of in form players Poor tactics and line ups until Xmas Too defensive overall especially at home or when defending leads away Praises Got enough good loan players in to turn things around Got the team battling towards the end of the season Keeping us in the Championship (fingers crossed) this year
Owls2k
Dave Jones' problem has been recruitment, clearly. Needs to do better on that part in the summer.

Eightace
Rolled the dice a bit and got lucky in the end. Made some bad signings but brought in a few decent players. Lumbered us with bothroyd....booo I don't know if bringing in players on short term deals like barkley and wickham was the way to go. He's finally found the players that give 100% and started to turn things round, even if the football hasn't been to my liking at times. Hopefully he can get some higher quality players in next season and have a good crack at the playoffs. I'd rather try and fail than play poor football. Its not just about what league we're in for me,i need to be entertained as well. He's not done a bad job but if he's backed next season we need to see some improvement. SallyCinnamon
PRAISE Turning our season round, since that Barnsley game we've been brilliant. A bit more luck here and there first half of the season who knows where we could be. Signing Kirkland and Gardner, looked like risks at the time but we now have two experienced and top Championship players. Not being afraid to try something different, experimenting with players and tactics to try and find a winning formula. Patience looks like it will have paid off, and considering our budget staying up in such a competitive league would be a huge achievement. GRUMBLE Sticking with Jay Bothroyd for so long, he was awful. Also playing him out wide didn't help. Apart from that very pleased with this season, on target to stay up and being realistic would have taken that at the start of the season.
theowlsman
http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=20071 I rest my case, he looks like a bus spotter in this pic. And as for a man bag at his age? Can only assume it contained a Thermos full of Bovril, and some egg n cress sarnies to keep him fed and watered in his seat in the stand. Can anyone confirm what flavour sandwiches they were, or what else he had in his man bag?

trevdi9
Won't lie about have been very vocal(cough)about him all season ,because of the games we lost and the bothroyd situation , pluss not getting the players with strength enough in the mid field and other key positions, but that could be down to what he was allowed, that said at the moment I am more than happy that we look like we can stay up ,and that's what matters most ,if he does that then fair play to the man but ffs Dave stop letting them play to deep if we go in front ,
sten
Can't kill a game off when you insist on defending a line 25 yards from your own goal.....copped it at Bristol and it was always on the cards today.
BIG D
I've been very critical of last Summers signings and the fact we've had to rely on loans to get us out of the poo . BUT it should be an easier job this year hopefully as long as he sticks to getting established Championship players. Quality over quantity. Daz
The job's not done yet, but I'd rather be in our position than the teams' below us. Grumbles Not sure he used his budget wisely enough by bringing in quantity at the expense of a little more quality Awful first half of the season until Stuart Gray came in Didn't seem to capitalise on our promotion momentum Chopped and changed players around far too much - even if they'd done well when they played Didn't give some players a chance e.g. Lee, when they were clearly up to it Gave other players too much of a chance when not performing e.g. Bothroyd Seems too cautious at home, or when leading Unsure as to how our younger players are being developed e.g. Madine Praise The turn round since December has been exceptional - particularly away from home Brought in a couple of players of real quality e.g. Kirkland/Gardner He's been bold in his team selections in the 2nd half of the season, using the squad to good effect and pulling off results Gets on well with MM which probably has helped him get more loan players in than he might have been allowed otherwise Looks like he will keep us up, if so, he will have succeeded in his second objective (1st was promotion) If he picked Stuart Gray then it seems to have been a very good choice Appears to be establishing a scouting network Plea (to the club, not specifically at DJ) For once, can we not have all the building blocks in place for the start of pre-season training so we can hit the ground running from day 1 as opposed to wholesale building during the season? I'm sure it would be worth a good 10 points compared to not having all the jigsaw pieces until the end of the transfer window at the end of August after 3 or 4 games have already been played - with the added problem of additional time to gel.
