derbysowl
Dave Whelan wants a minutes silence in tribute to Maggie Thatcher on Saturday. Has an ex miner I personally know the answer to that.

SidOwl
Read somewhere this morning that John Madjeski is planning on doing a minutes silence for the Hillsborough victims at the weekend when Reading play Liverpool and combining it with a minutes silence for Thatcher. That could be awkward!
Cambs Owl
Has he no idea of the outpouring of contempt that would fill that minute?
M Royds
Dave Whelan wants a minutes silence in tribute to Maggie Thatcher on Saturday. Has an ex miner I personally know the answer to that. You're forgetting that people like Dave Whelan have done very well under Thatcher. He's bound to feel gutted.

blueandwhitematt
Lost any respect I had for Whelan these past few weeks - first his disgraceful backing of the McManaman 'challenge', and secondly his complete ignorance of Thatcher's impact on his fanbase (which will be mostly working class folk with Wigan being quite a small, unfashionable town) and selfishness in wanting to show respect, as Royds says, because he did well under her. If he wants to show respect to her, he can do in his own time, not to force it on people. Some of his comments are bizarre, I think he even credits Thatcher for the Taylor Report, despite her government's handling of football fans in that era being scandalous at best (and the subsequent police cover-up with Hillsborough). And if Reading go ahead with that, then that is possibly the stupidest thing in the history of stupidity.
