Trevor Francis won the title for Leeds Utd

There's also the argument Francis put forward that if he'd signed cantona he probably wouldnt have been able to go for Chris waddle.

Cantona would have been on his bike in no time and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I wouldn't swap waddles first year at Wednesday for anything

My nephew spent many years as an employee of Dave Allen, and after that particular game called me to tell me that Cantona was in (I think) Josephines with three Leeds United players. He was only ever going to one place, and it wasn't Hillsborough. And for those of you who know Mel Sterland, you need to ask him for the real story as to why Cantona left Leeds for Man U, and it wasn't simply because Wilko didn't want him at the club any longer.

Oh no, because we know from past experience that people post stuff on here, and end up getting sued. Either Mel Sterland or Charlie Williamson will regale you with the story, without sticking it all over the internet.

Too many people use the benefit of hindsite when talking about Cantona. At the time we are talking there was very few foreign players in English football. Myself and most of of my mates at the time had heard Cantona 's name but apart from the fact he was famous for his French ban knew buggar all else about him. I saw him play in that game at the Sheffield Arena. He was good, but nothing exceptional. In fact we got totally out played by that American team when we thought we were good, and classed American teams as second rate. How wrong we were ! At the time Francis was totally correct in saying before he would commit to giving Cantanona a contract he wanted to see him play a competitive game on grass. It's just unfortunate that it turned out that Cantanona went on to be the influence that he was. Its my opinion that anyone saying otherwise, either wasn't involved at the time , or are using the benefit of hindsite.

That's true.

He was nobbing a lass in Sheffield after two nights in town with his agent.

Pulled her in what was the Chinese restaurant on Woodseats near the Big Tree.

Although a cult hero he was sub a lot of the time at Leeds from memory and I think he only went to Man U for a 1m?

Much more fuss when Ferdinand went there.
