The long balls that we smash up the pitch

Recommended Posts

The most annoying thing about the long balls we are smashing up the pitch is the fact that we're just hitting them straight from the centre back position (eg straight in front of Kirkland) straight forward to Lita who is usually in between two 6 foot 3 defenders

There's no diagonal smash balls pumped forward

There's no clever thought - just a very straight ball forward which means that Lita either has to win an unwinnable header against the defenders, or it comes down just in front of him and he then has to deal with trying to control/trap it, turn and head towards goal unassisted

It's reyt frustrating

We need to play it on the floor.. And not the pass it slowly and have no clue type of passing. Intelligent passing, pushing it into space for Antonio so he can whip one into the box, or Lita can smash it from the edge of the box.Absolutely unreal how many passes went astray tonight

Under Megson it was called terrible hoofball. What's it called under Jones?

Hoofball is hoofball no matter who it's played under

The thing we did today was completely flip up control of the posession when we had it

Instead of running at them we tried long passes and lost posession as a result

When we did run at them they panicked and either brought us down or we went past em to get a cross/shot in

But the long hoofballs by Llera and Gardner for example - just straight forward - and it did not help our cause and not once did anything come of em

long balls played up the middle in a megson team were usually met by a striker bigger than the defender marking him. That style no longer suits us. Lita makes brilliant runs off the ball, we should be utilizing this.

a megson team wudnt av put in such a limp wristed effort as wdd did today

Last year against charlton at home - and others im affraid. Its not the manager, its the available resources, players and team position predicament that triggers it.

Usually to me there looks no alternative to the long ball played from the back due to lack of options. What's the point in playing it to a blue and white shirt who is marked and ends up losing it? We are not equipped to play like they did today. As good as they looked they only really created the one clear cut chance.

Too often we have possession around halfway only to work it back to the keeper so he can launch in straight to the opposition centre halves. I can't help but think we should be able to mount some kind of attack from that position, rather than conceeding possession so cheaply.

Reyt frustrating is a bit of an understatement — what are the players thinking, why is it obvious to 90% of the crowd, and why did we cary on doing it. Surely Jones should have "had a word".

It's a long time since I have been so frustrated at a match, it was possibly Forests neat ball playing which emphasised our HOOOooOOOFing!!!
