Guest WoodhouseOwl77
Apologies if already discussed!!! SHEFFIELD Wednesday are giving a trial to French former Reading striker Mathieu Manset. The 23-year-old scored in a 4-2 win against Blackpool in a private reserves game at Middlewood yesterday. Manset played for the second half as a substitute and is having a few days’ trial with the Owls. He is a free agent after leaving Swiss club Sion, who signed him from Reading last summer. The Royals bought him from Hereford two years ago in a deal that with add-ons could have been worth up to £400,000. While with Reading, he had a loan spell at Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. Manset is the latest in a series of Wednesday trialists to spend some time with the club. Former Real Sociedad and Ajax forward Jeffrey Sarpong was released last week. Another trialist, former Newcastle youngster Jonathan James Hooper, netted the final goal yesterday after going on as a sub. Chris Maguire took the eye with two goals and looked sharp and eager. Maguire has been the subject of some speculation, as he has been out of the first team and would have had a spell at Portsmouth earlier in the season had he not got injured. The side yesterday also included Joe Mattock, Paul Corry, Nejc Pecnik, Rhys McCabe, Gary Madine and Jermaine Johnson, who made way for Manset at half time. Maguire put the Owls ahead from a Johnson pass then they came from 2-1 down to win. Danny Mayor, yet to establish himself in the senior side, has joined Southend on a month’s loan. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/sheffield-wednesday-owls-look-at-french-striker-1-5403358

Ante's Bubbly
I can'y get my head round the fact that DJ seems to go to strange lengths to keep Madine & Maguire out of the team, but this French player takes le biscuit. He's got more stamps on his passport than an air pilot, but has scored less goals than Madine in his entire lower league career than Madine has scored for Wednesday in a fifth less games. He is also a year older than Madine and likes to keep goats in his spare time! OK his outside interests may (and it's a big may) be more acceptable than some of Gary's, but come on, how many more of these dorks has DJ got to see kick a ball into the river before he realises that we have better players already at the club? I see it as a positive the club are constantly looking at players. Dave Jones said this process never stops. We might not sign this lad. No harm in having a look. Madine and maguire are already our players.

EatMyGOAAAALLLLL
Maguire always seems to score when played. Can't get my head round his situation. Ndumbu-Nsungu used to bang them in for fun in the reserves for about half a season when we were desperate for goals. Played the last half and became our top goalscorer. Amazed he's not even given Maguire a chance.
lesbarbeux
As I work in Hereford I get dragged along to see them occasionally and did see him once. I seem to remember him as a big strong and quick lad, able to bulldoze his way through L2 defenders and he did score, but not Championship material. That said, someone at Reading must have thought so, so there's no harm in DJ having a look at him.......maybe he has matured a bit.
W H I T E Y
Hopefully, he doesn't turn out to be another Marlon Harewood! Harewood looks a beast at the minute. Granted, he's not scoring goals but he's a different player since Hill went. If you go on youtube, there's some great footage of Manset. He looks a player. But I know he's got a chequered past. Why does there always have to be some conspiracy? Can we just trust DJ that he will play him when he feels it's right, same as he did Lee?

Wouldn't be worrying too much about what the folk at Barnsley are thinking about players to be honest.
