that Sheffield Wednesday produced arguably their greatest ever half of football, away against Blackburn Rovers in the Coca Cola Cup semi final, first leg. Paul Warhurst was virtually unplayable that night and I actually felt (a bit) sorry for Colin Hendry. Goals by John Harkes, John Sheridan and 2 for Warhurst made it 4-1 by half time. I remember Big Jack Charlton co-commentating and saying "Sheridan's one of my players" (for the Republic of Ireland) after he scored.

Mind you, we were very nervous in the second leg, and Roland Nilsson almost scored the craziest ever own goal, hitting our goalpost with a sliced crossfield pass. We were a goal down at half time, but a Hirst goal settled us down, and Bright scored a second.

We also got to the FA Cup Final that year, being very unlucky to lose against Arsenal in both matches.

I also remember us leading 5-1 at half time, again against Blackburn Rovers, in 1960, this time at home. Terrible weather pouring down with rain, we were all hoping for double figures in the second half, and it ended 5-4, with us hanging on!

Greatest ever home game? Difficult to choose between Boxing Day Massacre, and the 5-4 win against Man U in 1968. Best ever away result? 7-2 again against Man U in 1961 in the FA Cup replay, after a 1-1 draw at home!

Agree with the away game at Man Utd. For me the best game was the 2.1 win against Spurs in Nov 1960 followed by the 5.4 Man U game. The 7.0 home win against West Ham the season before was also a memorable match.

That was an unbelievable performance.  One of my all time favourites.  4 in 25 minutes in a semi after going one down?  something like that.  I remember being about 50 metres away from the people i went with after that fourth, wild is not the word!

We were in the middle of a hell of a run of form I seem to remember- definitely the best team in the country for 2/3 months without a doubt.

Unfortunately Arsenal under George Graham were probably the worst team for us to come up against at the time- they were basically the antidote to our potion of attacking football.

Incidentally Wednesday were the last fans on that stand behind goal as it was knocked down In the days after the game to make way for a new stand
