Favourite Hirsty Goal

Recommended Posts

Seeing as we're reminiscing, which of Hirstys goals is your favourite?

I think I'd go for his effort against Villa on the first day of the season (even though as is the Wednesday way it ended in disappointment).

So many to choose from though:

The goal from Waddles pass against the Scrubbers.

v The Gooners in the FA Cup Final

His screamer at the Kop end against Man U

Hull, when he ran from the halfway line (was there a similar one against City when he outpaced Vonk?)

His diving header at Barnsley

Top corner away at Newcastle

Etc, etc, etc

Turn on the halfway line and bursting away from the defenders - one v Man City and one v Hull when he got 4.

Pace, power and an animal in full flow

that one for me but there were lots.

How he used to get the ball with his back to goal and a defender on his back, swivel on a sixpence, burst of pace and slot past the keeper.

That was one of his specialities.

The Man City one is my favourite Hirst goal.  He left the Man City defender trailing in his wake, even though he was a pacy defender.  I often get players mixed up, was the City defender, Keith Curle?

Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

David Hirst was my first boyhood hero.

Pace, power and his left foot was like a wand.

If he played today he'd be on over £100k a week.

One of my favourite Hirst moments was not even a goal... he hit the post against Arsenal at Hillsborough and the ball rebounded to the half way line.

His goals are still great viewing....

I think we are forgetting the thirty yarder v Manu at old Trafford around feb 92?

Is my mind playing tricks?

About five thousand Wednesday going mental in the then standing up scoreboard paddock surrounded by fourth thousand Nancy's with faces like slapped arses - reminded me of 91!
