GY-owl.4
mamas took a pasting on this site since the last two home games, and in a way, rightly so, because he has been sh*t..... at the things he's been attempting, things like flicking it on...to himself on the halfway line, lets be honest, in the last two games its been 9 in our half with Antonio & Mama isolated in theirs. if were gonna sl*g off Mama or Madine or cog for that matter, I wanna criticise them for missing chances, for shooting wide, for heading over, not for their inabilities on the half-way line, they are all STRIKERS for god sake, these last two home games have been ripe for going & taking the wins but we have created bug*er all, scraps.. we have enough wingers at the club to be able to get to the by-line & provide service don't we? sorry I cant agree that all our players are this bad. I just see a forlorn looking boss that should be put out of his own misery. #tacticallyinept
@owlstalk
We cant slag strikers off at the moment for missing chances, shooting wide/over, misplacing headers because theyve not had a sniff of a chance Owlstalk Shop
Guest wilyfox
Might as well shove JJ and Antonio up top. Our strikers aren't getting any service, and they're the only two players that are self sufficient in being able to conjure something for themselves. I don't dislike DJ in any way and i'm no GM lover either. if half the side were performing you could argue its down to individuals, but lets be honest, no team cohesion at all. proper poor in every department. rob_owl_92
Van Persie wouldn't have scored in our side today. There's nothing you can do when the ball is just lumped up to you on the half way line. All strikers at any level need quality service from other players to get chances. If they have that then miss 4/5 chances a game any stick they get is deserved.I think we need to bring in another striker but today midfield was where I thought we needed to strengthen most. Someone who will keep it on the floor and try passing it forward rather than passing it back for Bywater or Llera to just lump it forward and also a winger who doesn't just play with their head down

Antonio has spent a fair bit of time up front in the last few weeks, and has been just as ineffective. Got some pace on him, but running in straight lines becomes predictable and he has no plan B, the MK full back figured him out inside 5 minutes today

Sure we could do with 2or3 additions, but whoever we get, are they going to flourish here in current environment??? I Don't Think So !

I think the squad does could do alright in the league but as you say not one of them is playing to their full potential. Maybe the players don't give a crap, maybe somethings just not clicked yet or maybe Jones has lost the dressing room. We'll never know for sure but I suspect the latter

Or the a combination of the first 2 as a result of the latter. Ah well could be worse, at least we haven't given him an 8 year contract like Newcastle and Pardew
Blueblood
We might not be able to slag Mama off for not getting chances. But I can quite easily say he's the worst player I've seen in a wednesday side for some time and that includes the likes of Bothroyd and Fanny Jeffers. Mama has no first touch, he can't hole the ball up, he can't pass, he shrinks when he jumps and on more than one occasion today he got in other players way. I'm sorry Mama, I genuinely think you're a nice bloke but sorry you're not what we need at this football club Edited January 6, 2013 by Blueblood
townend_owl
I agree there's a bit of a lack of service - but today there were a couple (another issue) of times when we had the ball in midfield and there was literally zero movement up front. Add to that the fact that both times Sidebe had the ball facing goal, he just stuttered and attempted nothing and you have a real lack of quality strikers. You'd be surprised how much difference that bit of off-the-ball movement can make even when there's not many players supporting. Dragging defenders all over the place is what we need. It doesn't just make you effective in attack but means whenever you happen to win the ball in the opposition half, you've got defenders all over the place instead of in their exact positions which is what happens now. Too easy to defend Edited January 6, 2013 by townend_owl

Too easy to defend I was hoping Maguire would provide more movement but the poor bloke looked knackered. Tbh I would have played Rodri today, not that the game outcome would have been any different but he would have offered us more pace and movement than Sidibe
Guest phshaw
The strikers aren't getting chances but townend owl makes a valid point. The thing is, as bad as we were today I do think a couple of key additions would make a big difference. Remember the immediate impact Kingy and Shezza made to the team when they joined in 1989? Of course we won't get players as good as that but the recruitment is crucial this month; DJ will know that this month anyone who comes in has to hit the ground running, score goals and lift the spirit of the team and fans. Get it right and things will change quickly. Get it wrong, well you know the rest....
