Worksop Wednesday
Am I missing summat here I know they are both capable of doing either and they do swap during matches and MA been playing on left in the 451 or whatever it is but until then MA had always predominantly been RW, and JJ LW personally love seeing MA bomb up the right with Lewis in support and missed it when JB started appearing there but back in 442 MA lines up LW and JJ RW why ? do think MA might now benefit from a rest but been best player imo this season and if JJ is injured again prob cant afford to ? also like to see DM get a chance now
Guest celeste_owl
Jones has said he likes to play with his wide men on 'the wrong side' ie a right sided player on the left, as leads to them cuting in a lot more. I wonder therefore if in a four man midfield he feels this helps narrow the middle of the park a little and stop us getting over run so easily? Just a thought, happy to be corrected. On the flip side, we barely ever make a cross from open play. Perhaps this is the reason.
alanharper
Got it wrong on Saturday. They're both predominantly right footed, but he played the one who likes to cut in and have a shot but isn't very good at crossing (or shooting come to think of it) on the right wing, and the one who tries to put more crosses in on the left. We were creating chances and scoring goals early in the season by playing MA right and JJ left, why not go back to that?

Jackie Sewell
I think MA is much more effective on the right, on the left his left foot crosses are inconsistent so he has to try outside of right foot sometimes and teams are now ready to gang up when he cuts inside so often crowded out. The main dangerous tactic however is the long crossfield ball started by Bothroyd for MA to outmuscle the fullback and burst through although this of course works just as well on the right. If I remember rightly most of the carnage he caused last year was from the right wing. Also is it worth varying throws a bit more, teams appear to have rehearsed their long throw defence in training so they're not working and waste maybe five minutes when we are already running out of time? Last_Great_Hope
on the flipside JJ sometimes "goes missing" when tracking back (usually after 60 mins!) and having our best defender in Buxton behind him makes us more solid on that side.
