WayneTheOwl
Like many, I have been wondering what has gone wrong at S6 and why has Dave Jones not been sacked. I reckon this is all part of a Mandaric master plan to be honest. Here is my reasoning behind it all: We all know Mandaric doesn't like spend lots of money unless necessary. At the beginning of the season there have obviously been talks between MM, PA, DJ. Mandaric has probably told DJ that he has 1 million to spend on player transfer fees but only if he cannnot find everyone he wants on free transfers (hence the long running saga of signing Antonio). IF this fails to reap any rewards (which it has not done), then come January regardless of where we are, DJ will be given 3-4 million to spend on "proper" players. Players who can make a big difference in the Championship. MM told DJ he will NOT lose his job no matter what, but if we are still in a worrying position come the end of February, he will not keep his job. This is all I can think of what has been going on. It would make sense. Mandaric will not lose 7-8 million by going down, he cannot risk that. He knows he has to spend and will recoup some fees in outgoing transfers/wages etc. This sounds even dafter but with the right players why cannot we go on a 10-15 game unbeaten run? Millwall, Palace, Charlton have all done it and now Ipswich. All teams that were near the bottom !!! For me we need four key players to come in: a central defender, a central midfielder, a winger who knows how to cross and a striker. Baath & Treacy would fill 2 of those spots potentially but DJ will probably look at "bigger name" players. Reda will be like a new signing when he is back. Or why not have Buxton at centre back and give Lee his chance at right back? Not sure if this is daft optimism but I cannnot think of any other reason why DJ still has his job. WayneTheOwl
Take a look at the potential new manager threads and you may find your answer as to why DJ is still in a job. , I have read all them. I think MM would have found a replacement by now if he wanted to!!
Charles Monkey
3 to 4M to spend in January? Sounds like we're buying Bothroyd then.
Bob
I find it difficult to believe a business man of MM's standing would gamble as suggested by the OP. To get free's, loans and players of questionable quality in, on the cheap, in the hope that it would be enough to get us into a safe position at Christmas was very risky, and there is no guarantee that throwing 3-4 million at it in January will save the club from relegation. So although I find it difficult to believe what has happened, it has, and I cannot see MM throwing a lot of money at the problem because it is not in his nature. Really hope I am wrong. Someone has gambled somewhere for us to be in the position. And MM HAS to throw some money at the problem otherwise it will be a much much bigger problem come the end of the season. Worksop Wednesday
.3 things I expect to see in January 2013 1) we will not be spending owt 2) we will find it difficult to move players on especially if they signed 2/3 year deals in summer eg mattock /pecnik 3) any new players - which will be either loan / out of contract / free signings - will not arrive until Tuesday January 30th 2013 at earliest we know how it is don't we ? TBH I doubt the proposed january splash of cash but we'll see - I agree tho that MM & PA's policy of keeping the budget tight ( who can argue it is his money, whether this is sensible is another debate) and therefore shared culpability, can surely be the only reason that DJ has survived such a catastrophically bad summer recruitment, loan deals and run of 14 defeats in
Guest Nilsson_is_God
Even if the OP is right in his thinking (which i believe is not a million miles away from whats happening) which players are going to want to join us, struggling at the foot of the table and with an impossible task of staying up... what players are we going to attract?? No better than what we have, simple fact is we should have spent the 2, 3 4 miliion in the summer on 5 or 6 very good players rather than the bargain basement.... steelowl
Budget could be a lot tighter next season when we lose 7K season ticket holders indeed tbh I cannot understand why MM puts himself thro this pressure at his age relegation will probably destroy any possibility of getting out with a profit anytime soon
ReginaldD
Budget could be a lot tighter next season when we lose 7K season ticket holders Indeed it'll be very interesting to see what the take up is on renewals come February time. A lot of people who are skint but pushed themselves last year to renew as we were seeing good football will decide against renewing if were still in the bottom three. Plus they'll be huge numbers of people not renewing in that many bought season tickets who hadn't had them for years after the promotion in the hope we be riding on the momentum but we've had no such luck, loads of these people won't be renewing. Would be interesting to discuss with Milan how his enthusiam tank is doing come the summer. Edited December 11, 2012 by ReginaldD
tom-superowl
Think you got it spot on tbh.. we all know Jones is a quality manager. They tried the cheaper way fair enough it hasn't work, not all Jones' fault. He bought players on a budget and it backfired. Now its time for plan B.. Either way MM is going to lose money this season, if he sacks Jones and has to get a new manager that could cost around 1-2 mil? If we get relegated it would probably lose us about 10+ million. So why not spend say 3-5 million in January get DJ a half quality to team as foundations to build on!
WayneTheOwl
I am pretty sure MM will spend some decent cash. Just hope we can get shut of a lot of the dead wood.

Guest ka58
hate to break it to you, but Milan loses nothing if we go down, unless we don't come back up before he sells us How do you work that out? We go down - we lose money, we stay down we lose more money, we go back up, he has to pay more money to keep us up to make us saleable again. There's no possible scenario where going down this year cannot impact from a financial point of view.

So its Reda's turn to be the saviour now is it ??. At league one level i would say thats a dam fine idea, at Championship level i would say the only master plan that would be part of, is a flawed one, and once again shows exacly why we are where we are. The only thing wrong with MM's master plan as far as progress was concerned is that at this level it didn't have enough outbound £s in it.
