New Found Optimism

Recommended Posts

I don't know why but I woke up at 6am this morning for work with a new found optimism for Wednesday.

When I look at the team I see a good Championship squad. Take away the poor morale and we have a decent outfit. I remember going to the games back in 09/10 and knowing we were shyte. We had shyte players who couldn't give a throw about the team. We had shyte a manager(s) who couldn't handle the pressure and was ultimately clueless. As a Football club on and off the field we were going off the rails. But I look at the Club now. The Chairman. The manager. The squad. We are nothing like we were 2/3years ago.

DJ might be infuriating; but he's a good enough manager. When (and it is a when and not an if) we can get out of this rut, we have a team that can progress with a manager that knows the Championship inside out.

I don't think we'll be down in the bottom two for much longer. January will be the month we kick start our season. We will not go down. Milan will not let us go down. DJ will not let us go down. We have to believe, as fans, that it will happen. Let's be honest, we didn't have the best squad in L1 last season. Charlton, Huddersfield, even United were all stronger than us. But we believed in the team and that transpired on to the pitch.

Gone are the days of Karen. Gone are the days when our beloved Football club was shamed by the powers at be. Meggy, Milan & DJ have made us all to be Wednesdayites again and we can't let 3 months of poor results destroy that.

We are all Sheffield Wednesday. We love this magnificent club. We're have our ups and downs but we wouldn't be Wednesday without them. We need to keep the faith. We will get better. We will stay up. We will progress. Whilst Milan is at the helm, nothing will destroy the belief.

We need a Colchester moment. The game when we beat them 2-1 at home in April 2011 which saw the team get a rousing cheer as they went off for half time winning 1-0. People commented that they hadn't heard a roar like that at half time for some time (probably because the results had been poor) but it showed that the crowd were behind the team and so the team need to put in a good first half performance at home, get some confidence and go on and win the game. So lets hope the Colchester moment can be replaced by the Charlton moment with three points at Barnsley thrown in too.

I still feel that only half of our team are good enough for the championship, I'm willing to support Jones because none of the out of work managers fill me with confidence. We need a driving force in midfield and a striker who gets goals regularly.

Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

 PolarNigel... you have become a head hunted man now by the OT'ers who hate any form of positivity where DJ or certain players are concerned... Run for your life man!!!! :)

I've posted similar attempts to rouse the positivity cells of a certain % of our fan base, as have others and it just won't work for them but I'm with you deep down and agree.

Some people are just never happy at the end of the day and will complain till they're red in the teeth, they say it comes from their childhood and something they never truly got over. :)

UTO!

lol

But I should be one of those. All I've seen is rubbish. Being 20, the best thing I've seen us do is gain promotion from League 1 (twice).

I honestly don't think we are a bad side. We've progressed so much in the past 18 month as a club and as a fan base. We can't let 3 months destroy it.

Doesn't it seem strange that, on paper, we have a lot better team than last time we were in the championship (i would say even taking into account the improvement in the championship since then), and yet we're doing worse...

That's why we'll get out of it. Too good to go down!

Well as I am also someone who cares for service users with severe mental and learning disabilities, I read your poor simile as having a lack of understanding.

I have a very good understanding as it happens, some would say I have a better understanding of mental illness, as opposed to your poor sense of humour me thinks.
