Guest Zipper
by Jamie Clark It may be a bit premature to bill him as the next Celestine Babayaro or Taye Taiwo, but the development of Sheffield Wednesday teenager Mayowa Balogun is coming on leaps and bounds. The English-born Development Squad player, just 16, has ambitions to play for Nigeria as he nears a possible first-team breakthrough. Last weekend Balogun made his Under-21s bow and played the full match against Wigan Athletic at left back. He can also operate at centre half. Daniel Jones, Wednesday’s current first-team left back has come in from criticism from supporters. A contributor to Owls online fanzine War of the Monster Trucks told our reporter he thought the 25-year-old to have been “lost†in recent defeats. Other options on that side of Dave Jones’s defence are limited. Summer signing Joe Mattock has been sent off already this season and was dropped following the defeat to Hull. Reda Johnson has been missing since mid-September, Kieran Lee has appeared just twice so far and Julian Bennett was loaned to League One side Shrewsbury Town earlier this month. So there’s every chance Balogun could get first-team exposure as Wednesday sit precariously above the relegation zone in the Championship. Balogun was involved in the Owls’ pre-season, appearing as a second half substitute in the 1- 1 friendly draw at Sheffield FC in July.
gurujuan
Wouldn't want to put him in now, it could ruin him in the hostile environment that's is Hillsborough these days. If we can achieve safety sooner rather than later, then a run at the end of the season may be the best thing, providing he keeps improving

Mr. Chow
Tell me your take on Helan, tomorrow will be a first as I've not yet seen him very quick on the ball, likes over lap and creat space for passes, not Afraid of wanting to ball and also he can play left mid so if we're short on the bench can push up there

EatMyGOAAAALLLLL
Not comparing him to our previous young 'talents' but Beevers has come on leaps and bounds since being away from Hillsborough. Spurr has held down a regular place at Donny as well and done well there. When these two came through at Hillsbro' the atmosphere was hostile due to the poor performances and I imagine at that age confidence has a major influence on your progression. I don't think that atmosphere did anything to help those two so putting an untried 16 year old in that kind of situation doesn't seem ideal to anyone. If he's as good as people are making out then a loan move to club in a positive situation, similar to Palmer at Tranmere, seems like a sensible option to me. Helan is the better option for us at this moment.

Hack-Abusi
we've a habit of flipping up with youngsters coming through the ranks - can only think of Wood, Spurr and Beevers Edited December 8, 2012 by Hack-Abusi
